Has anyone ever sailed at Toorbul? Which wind directions work best? The way the shoreline runs its seems like SE,NE and NW might be good. I drove through the other day and it seems like a nice location. Long sandy shoreline with plenty of launching locations. But was wondering there may be too many wind shadows being so close to Bribie?

Well its really close to Bribie so if the angle is a bit wrong you can sail around to Bongaree or Sandstone Point. I haven't been there for a while but SP and the channel and sand bars nearby offer great jumping on a lowish tide plus south easter.

We aught to have a Windwanderer's meet at Bongaree. Hardly anyone goes there any more. Its a nice spot for a picnic - grass, sand, teatrees, sheoakes, lots of parking. (I know its on the list Justin.)

Hi MPL,

i lived at Meldale for a year or so and sailed bribie for about 4 years..... but i never sailed at toorbul.

the best spot in the area for a SE is sandstone point (flat water). if you live near toorbul then you can get there through the pine forests. you need a high tide though. if no wind lots of dirt roads to test the skills on.
if the tide is low, try bongaree (flat to massive). but make sure the tide is coming in because it is an open stretch of water off bongaree and the tide can do 8 knots.

NW wind Bellara (bump and jump) at bribie is good.

NE wind there is a spot near ningi (bump and jump). turn left half way between ningi and spinnaker sound on your way to bribie where the double road is and find the park on the water. opposite side of passage to pacific harbour. it is about the best in a NE other than woorim. but it has mud problems at low tide. the other way is to launch at sylvan beach and sail towards the pacific harbour canal. the wind in a NE funnels through there. the further towards the ningi side of the passage you sail the stronger the wind gets.
also Woorim is good in a NE. if you like surf.

SW you are talking sandstone point again.

also a prvious issue of Ozwindsurf mag has a location guide with some stuff about beachmere too.

padi and notwal. yes we must go to bongaree with the club.
