Hi Pedro_France,

I 've been up there last week. I my give you the following short info:

It is quiet a long and exhausting way to go to Gnaraloo. Especially the last 50 km. The facilities in the camp are not what one would call "comfortable". You have to bring your own (drinking) water. Water in the ocean? Depending on tide plenty, starting is a bit tricky. Have to climb the cliff before you have to cross flat reef...

The price of the camping is about 14 $. There is a small kiosk but you have to buy everything that is supposed to be "consumed" in Carnarvon (about 150 km distance) or elsewhere along your way North.

I don't want to keep you from your plans (as I have also insisted to go up there) but you should be aware that you will have to share the waves (huge ones, that's for sure) probably with 25 others (or more), if the conditions are good to sail. Typical sails are between 5.5 and 4.7, probably a 4.2 as the winds get fresher. However, wind mostly doesn't start before 2 p.m. It is going to be very hot, there is no shadow.

I personally would recommend you to go to Geraldton (about 440 km from Perth) first and then to decide if and when moving to this meanwhile famous spot.

Hang loose and have a good time!

Local advertising paper the "Quokka" will have cheaps cars in it, not sure how many Aus dollars you want to spend. Depending on how fast your car goes its about a 12 hour journey. When your not sailing you need some sort of shade, take a couple of metres of shade cloth, some fly repellant and enough fuel to get from canarvon to gnarloo and then back to canarvon.
The cliff you have to climb down is only about 2 metres tall, booties are a good idea as the cliff and reef that you have to walk over is very sharp and so are the sea urchins.
The last bit of the road surfingdave mentions is a rough bouncy sandy track rather than a road it seems to go on forever and ever.
See my post re tides as I went on low tides once and it was diffcult to get out.

we'll try to find this Quatas' papers, is there a web site to see the announcements from this advertising papers? Do you know also about insurrance? the price for 3 months?

We already know about the heat and the long way to get there, thank you!and the lake of water!

After we'll certainly go around Margaret River, I would like to rent a condo for 2 weeks for 2 personnes around that place, is that really expensive in that season (17th of december until 4th of January)?

The Bluff is now $10 a night, so for $4 more you get showers, toilets... plus you dont have to drive 30 mins every day. We looked into this option but once we found out the cost of Bluff we just stayed at Gnaraloo

Hi Folks,

Sounds like camping has got hugely exo at Gnarloo. I remember the good old days when if you stayed for more than 3 weeks it was only $3/night. I heard a rumour that you can now visit (and camp) in the area north of the Bay. Can anyone confirm this?

Cheers, Jens
