Hi Crew, ive Custom Vgripped a few booms now. Using HD EVA. Usually i do it when regripping a boom. Contact cement a 6-8mm x20mm x 900mm layer along the inside of boom. Sand to desired shape. Regrip as usual n youre done. Super comfy.
But now i wish to Vgrip a boom with a perfect grip. Have contact cemented Vgrip form to existing boom grip. Taped it very tightly to assure a good bond.Removed tape once cured. Looks the goods
Yet to sail it.
Will the Vgrip rip off easily? Will it stand the test of time?
Thoughts???
^^ Cmon now!! Phone camera n laptop kaputski! Olskool for a reason. Might get it out for a test sail this arvo. Have left one side still in presanded slab form. The other is finished V shape. Slab form does feel comfier in my size hands. Fits in betwen first n second knuckles better. A few others have agreed.
You could be onto something.
Custom ribbing for your personal pleasure
Trapezoid shape could be perfect looking down the hole in my hand .
Yep, kinda what i have. Imagine a side view of a pyramid with the top cut off. Base is 20mm wide with 45' angle cut away to leave roughly 10mm top. About 6-8mm high.
Still in the test n tune stages but looks n FEELS promising.
Sounds good.
A couple problems that may occur is i can see it peeling off , ( which we know is the big question ) , especially with the squarer edges giving even more anti slip in the hand . And do you want to be locked into a one position ? It doesn't seem to matter with a V grip so it probably wont matter with a trapezoid shape . Im presuming the edges are rounded and not sharp ?
If the glue holds , its a superb idea
Yep its only as good as the glue. HD EVA still squishes n conforms to the shape of fingers. Better than a rigid form.
You should make the profile to match a banana. Ray Comfort says they were designed by God for gripping.
