Well, it's time to hit the road again...I'm off to Mui Ne, Vietnam, for 3 months of windsurfing by day and systematic brain cell destruction by night. So long Gold Coast, and thanks for the memories!!!!

(You guys are welcome to chuck in your jobs and join me!)

Happy sailing!

Duhh....ok! I expect I'll be staying no more than about 10 metres from the water - that should be close enough!

Willy, have you researched this move thoroughly? It seems that the average wind speed in Vietnam is 8 knots, peaking at 12 knots in February

How are their averages worked out? Is it the average over the whole 24 hours of the day? If so you might get 20 knots during the arvo and bugger all during the morning, giving Willy time to recover from drinking cheap grog.

Holy heck, it's one of the most consistently windy places around! It's not Maui but it's still pretty kickass, from what I hear!

A lot of my windsurfing buddies from Singapore go there whenever they can, for a chance to sail in stronger winds. Lots of days it's above 20kts. The rental sails range between 3.5 and 7.5, which says something. I've heard a lot of first-hand accounts from people who've been there, and everybody says they wanna go back!

Plus you can chill out on a tropical beach when it's not windy...and it's cheap - I've never paid more than AUD$8 a night for a hotel...the local rum is less than AUD$1 a bottle - need I say more??

See you there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd love to go there, maybe in 2009. Hopefully my wife will be windsurfing by then and will be keen to go. She loves Vietnamese food and has always wanted to visit.

So the average wind speed is worked out over 24 hours a day? If so getting 8 knots probably makes it a reasonably windy place.

No I won't, no I won't!! Well, maybe for a holiday!!

Hey guys, howdy from Singapore...I lucked into some of the best days of the year - that means 7m conditions for us heavies and 5m-6m for the regular people. The NE Monsoon has arrived!! There must've been at least 50 sailors out, all going crazy! It blew all weekend, and the tropical sun was shining, and there was not a jetski or motor cruiser in sight!! This is in the ocean off the east coast of Singapore, at the People's Association Seasports Centre. You could go nonstop for about 2km if you got a good bit of wind (alas it was a tad gusty)...the only downside was the fact that since the NE blows offshore, there is a wind shadow around the club, so you have to swim or grovel your way out for the first 30m or so...but we're grownups, we can handle it!

Anyway, it felt great to see all the gang again - I was getting kind of fed up with being the only windsurfer at Broadbeach 99% of the time. Here everybody sails at the same place, except for rare occasions when the wind warrants a road trip to Changi beach or Malaysia. I like it!! I like it!!

**This is NOT a recommendation to come to Singapore for a windsurfing holiday! You've gotta wait MONTHS for a couple of days like this!!
