Hoping to fly to Melbourne with 2 mates at end of Sept. to go to Sandy Point. Can anyone in Melbourne help out by telling us where we could hire a cheap van (eg hiace) to carry 6 boards, 3 guys and associated gear. We dont want any frills, just something to get us there and back and around the town.

My father had to hire a van just recently, for a few weeks - he got it from "Rent a bomb". Was about $50 per day + insurance for a Hiace, pickup from a place near the Melbourne airport.

I was jogging past a "rent-a-bomb" outlet at lunchtime today and checked prices. $57 per day for a Hiace, available from Tullamarine as Mathew said. see www.rentabomb.com.au

sorry to put a neg on rent a bomb, but i think their free breakdown recovery only applies to a 50km radius, and seeing as u r renting a clanger it could but a big downer on your trip ,,

nb the parking place at sandy point is up there on the list of places you definatley don't want to break down at!!
