Hi folks,
I have recently purchased a JP FreeWave 85 (2006), but it sucks in water through the vent plug. ie: when the board gets hot, you can see the water bubbling out from around the thread.
The main question is, have other people seen this - is this normal?
Second question, it appears that the thread in the board (ie: the moulded bit that the steel-screw screws into), is cracked. It this normal (I expect not...)?
thanks

no, a board sucking in water is definitely not normal.
Take it back and get it swapped under warranty

Harrow, any board with a vent screw (most these days) should have a rubber O-ring on the vent screw. This gives a (supposedly) water tight seal when done up tight.
Some boards come with plastic ones or some with a flat or cut out down one side. get a stainless steel one and keep an eye on the O-ring. Once it starts to perish, get a new one.

meant to say .. that no rubber O ring could be the problem..as mentioned by ka43, no ring = no watertight seal.

I normally make my own plugs, but couldn't be bothered for my last mal, bought one of those plastic things. First time out of the water, board started to drip!!!! On inspection both parts of the plug were molded, not machined, and there was a raised mold seam right across the sealing face, may be what looks like a crack in yours. Had to do more work on the bought one to get it to seal, than making one from scratch, so guess what I do now!

Thanks for all the replies - and yes I have replaced the O-ring - twice...! And I'm pretty much convinced that there shouldn't be any cracks in the thread.
From my googling, the board should usually hiss when the plug is released -> it shouldn't be bubbling water out of it.
thanks,
Mathew
