Do they get wind in January, from the time I spent there in the early 80s, there's some great waves, but I don't remember much wind? I've sailed Parry's during winter in a howling westerlie, waist to chest high waves, great fun.

There is no other place in the country you would want to be at that time of the year .The doctor will be making daily visits to our shore but as for heading all the way south? there is a few spots a little closer you should check out, Gero and Leno. The ledge to leno will also be on, in the time you are visiting worth checking out even if you go just for the party, you migth just catch some nice wave action while your there as well.Margrets is a great place but not for the inexperienced great wave sailing but just be aware that this place wants to destroy your gear.Esperence is about 10 hrs from perth and the wind can be a little fickel at times but has some of the best beaches around .

Decrepit I have sailed Parry's early January on a 5.2 3/4 mast high and a logo high reform but the wind seems to die in the arse about 4pm. The beach that the road leads to is onshore in their SE seabreeze, so we sailed a couple of K's across the bay to where it was sideshore (2 huge tacks).

Well that explains it bluejuice, I normally only got to the beach about 4, mainly surfed ocean beach.
Sounds like you were further round the bay than I was, that's one of the good things about Parrys, you can drive round the bay untill it's sideshore.

oj, Esperance needs a big high in the bight, producing strong easterlies.
side off in the morning, side on in the arvo. Dec to Feb are about the best bet. If you're here in Jan there's a good chance of waves and wind.

I'd head north dude. More chance of better conditions. BEWARE though, I've seen guy's sit on the beach for three weeks with nothing but but trough after trough. Bring a surf board or two.

Big Flatus (and others with experience),

Where do you sail at Lights Beach. I went there once after reading it was good and found myself standing at a tiny beach with a small rock island in front of it. The beach was just near Madfish. It wasn't very exciting, with no surf! Is this the place. U could see madfish to ur right if u were facing the horizan???

Is parry's better?

My personal experience with that stretch of coast is not good. I have literally spent days driving in between Walpole and Albany looking for a decent wave sail and have never found one!!! The best I have come up with is Peaceful bay, and it wasn't that special. This experience is with 4wd exploration aswell. Places like Conspicuous cliffs, Rame head, and Blue Holes just havn't worked. Have tried both summer and winter. Is this just bad luck, or has sailing up north (and margrets) given me to higher expectations?

Cheers.

Simon.

Nah didn't sail OJ. The wind was blowing the opposite tack so I got scared. I must look cool at all times.
