I'm doing Community policing in beautiful Esperance, W.Aust & want to teach youngsters some basics at the local yacht club. Have 2x boards (and sails), but both now u/s. One board was dropped and skin has split & may not be fixable.(Any ideas?) Other has broken nose after my youngster rode it into the beach whilst trying it out as a Malibu surfboard. So does anyone still have a WINDSURFER One Design board and bits out there? There must be heaps of them somewhere. This gear is low-tech stuff but a great way to introduce kids to a sport i've done for over 20yrs. Please let me know if you know where I can get some. I need at least 3x good sound ones, (ie no cracks) plus any spare bits. I can pay a few dollars but not much.

MJP,

These come up on ebay every other week. Usually go for around $100 to $150 depending on condition.

Regards,
Harrow.

I've sent you a PM, great to see what you're doing.

Since we started teaching kids on Wallys with new but simple small sails (special Barracouta 4.5s and 3.5s which work so much better than old wavesails or pinheads) here at Dobroyd in Sydney, we've had about 6 of them get their own boards, others use their parents, and not a single one has dropped out.

They may not be fast in strong winds, but the Wally is super cheap, super tough, and they're great for teaching technique and tactics and most of all, for all the messing about stuff kids like; bashing into each other, hanging out in light winds (they don't the ability to chase the wind like adults do so they have to be able to go out sailing when they can get down to the water). We plan to have a Junior class for 4.5 and under sails at the next nationals and will do what we can to help anyone to get kids and Windsurfer One Designs going anywhere.

This is what brought on the boom era - families and kids just mucking about - kid Style, on cheap, solid Indistructable gear.

Doing great work Chris, Windsurfing needs people like you keep it up.
