good wind and nice waves!
but I was the only windsurfer lost in the middle of kitesurfers. I was hoping for a bit of fellow windsurfer company. where's everybody?

I'm not sure that the wind 's gone hold till tomorrow.
(I was in 5.4 well powered and high tide wasn't really an issue at Wanda as it seems that there is a pretty good sandbar further out where the waves were breaking.)

I guess it'll be surf for the rest of the week

Sorry, I'm just a flat water intermediate, but I always thought you'd need a lot more than 10knts (say, at least 15knts ??) to get out in the surf?

I had the same thought Harrow. Even on the flat stuff it tends to be a bit ordinary until 15knots (just as the white horses are forming). Small wave sails I would have thought would need a lot more.

Maybe there is more grunt in the wind at the beach, due to the local humidity.

On they way out in 10knts you slogg but once you catch a wave you will be planning and fully powered due to the effect of apparent wind.
The best wave sailing often happens when theres only 10-15knts of breeeze.
As for where all the windsurfers are at cronulla im out till september coz i aint got a licence for some time. I think most other guys are heading to maui soon aswell, im off there in 2 weeks.

kitingkook, are you just making excuses for there never being any strong wind at Wanda?

kitingkook, what size gear (board and sail) would you use to wave sail in only 10knts?

personnaly there's no way I could sail in 10 knots.
first I am too lazy (as you need to be keen and pumping)
and also would probably get out through the wave with water up to my belly which is not the best option!

i made a late dash at wanda on the monday - i was also the only one out there, but it was about 4pm... most of the guys are in maui. the conditions were great though, cross shore and i was fully powered and jumping on a 5.0. the southerly with a bit of west in it works well down there.

roll on summer

Hey harrow Id use a 5.7 and a 90lt board.
And yes it is a good excuse for their not being any wind at wanda, but hey whats wrong with clean waves and more time on the water, as long as you can getb out and catch a wave theres no reason why you shouldnt sail .

I have a evo 74litre harrow but its the width that matters. At 56cm it will slogg ok in about 10knts and then be very manouverable on the wave. In this sort of light wind having a channel to got out, time between sets and/or an A frame type wave where you can slog up to the peak is best.
cheers
