G'Day Mike!
I bought a board a couple of weeks ago. I wanted a board to get me planing in 15 knots, but at 98kg it's a little bit too small being 111L.

It is an RRD Racing Upwind 286, really light at only 6.3kg and at 56cm wide makes it a breeze to gybe. It has a couple of repairs and comes with a 40cm pointer Tuttle fin. The hull has a nice vee, so is a pretty smooth sail for a race board.

I am looking to recover the $200 that I bought it for so that I can go for something about 120-130L. At 111L I reckon it should get you planing easily in 15 knots with a 5.5-6.0m.

Give it a few days to see what else pops up, but feel free to give me a call on 0418 940 088 anytime. (I can e-mail photos if you like...)

(Are we there yet??!!!!) Seaton

im 63kg, My slalom board is 79L. 49cm wide.

It wont hold a big sail, but i do have a super X 82L that I was using with a 7.8m RS4. I dont know how it worked but it seemed to.

I think that you need the smallest slalom board you can get for light weights like us.

If you are only progressing off a bombora go for about 100L cause this will become your light wind board.

I have a Slalom board 8'11 about 100L. If you are in the footstraps and harness I will sell it to you for $250 but you will need to get a fin for it which is no hassle.

email me at [email protected] for more details.

Hi Mike.
Sounds as though you probably are actually needing more of a 'free-ride/slalomish' board, rather than a full on slalom.
The 'cheap" (read old) slalom boards are not the most user friendly type of board, unlike modern styles (Star-sonic 100's etc)& they usually need to be driven hard.
Pop in & have a look & a chat. We may have something that suits.
Cheers.

well mike the hybrids by john hall are excellent boards and go like a rocket. it just so happens that i have one for sale too!! i weigh about 65-70 kg and i can get that board going in a bit under 10 kn very comfortably. it can hold a 9m sail well and is a bout 110L which makes it a good light wind board. full carbon epoxy construction. the board is in good nick and comes with a fin.
if your intrested give us a bell 0421 545 733. or e-mail [email protected]

Life is but a dream, from which we all must wake.

Hey Mike,
a couple of years ago i was in your situation and weighed about 60kg too. If your just going to have one board something around 75-80 litres would be pretty ideal. I use to sail a windtech slalom board of this volume and by chucking a bigger fin in i could get it up and planning with my 5.5 (you can definetly use bigger if you've got it)in 12-15 knots. This probably depends a bit on your ability as well and to sail a board this volume you've got have your waterstarts sussed. I sailed this board up to about 30knots but never on the open ocean.

If you've got the luxury of owning two boards Seaton's sounds like a sweet deal but at your weight this would be a nightmare in strong winds.

As negative as it sounds. the board you choose will always be the wrong board for you.
If you choose too small a board your progression will be reduced and you will want to go bigger in the future.

If you choose the perfect board or slightly bigger, you will soon want a smaller board..

Either way you cant really win??
you can only reduce how far off you will be from the idea sitution.

hey chad i was the person that bought your starboard wave board off u at windsurfing perth, thanks a lot for that, so far its my favouritest board of all time cos the only other one i have is the bombora. ALl of these offers sound great,

Could you please send me some pictures Seaton? ACtually all of the people that offered boards it would be great if you had pics that i could see, email them to me at [email protected], if the email bounces back then try [email protected]

Im only 15 so i dont wanna bleed my bank account dry so 300 and under would be nice. Maybe a little over depending on the board. SO yeah pics would be great from all you guys that had some advice andan offer, and thanks for the tips and stuff bout the litres and everything,

cheers,
mike

Mike don't get anything too big. Once those seabreezes kick in you'll need something small.

Hey everyone,

I realised that i actually want a kinda freeride board instead of a slalom board. So yeah sorry about this everyone and thanks for all the offers. If anyone has a board that is kinda like a freeride one then it would be great if you could post it.

Once again sorry to everyone that took their time to offer their boards it was much appreciated,

cheers
