I am thinking of a 3 month sabbatical to go windsurfing in WA. In the past I have 3 seasons sailing at Geraldton, mainly at Coronation Beach on a Strapper 8' 4" wave board (if you can remember back to glass boards).

Given that I haven't sailed for years (literally) and that equipment has significantly changed since then I would like to ask some advice on board selection. I am not that concerned about the length of my lay off from windsurfing, as with a season in Geraldton I will soon get back into the grove.

I am most familiar with the JP range of boards and I am considering JP Radical Wave 74 rather than the JP Real World Wave 76.

My concern is what size would be suitable since boards have changes so much. Are these boards to small / big for 4.0 to 4.5 Sails with an 80 Kg Sailor bumping & jumping at Coronation Beach. Also I will have another board (Naish 8' 7" Freeride) & sails (5.0 & 5.8) with me.

How much do you weigh?

Given you have a freeride board with sails up to 5.8. for the lighter end of the wind range, then you want something smaller for the windy days and a JP radical wave would be excellent, given the rocker, vee, and narrow tail.

Every season seems to be different, but it can certainly get very windy with 30 knots plus, so you wanna be able to sail those days.
