Hi all

My old wave board has the back strap offset for the 99 % of sailing I do at my local break. That board has three strap positions one on the stringer and one each on the port and starboard side of the stringer. Now I’m looking at boards on the web and a lot of the production boards don’t appear to have the offset option. Admittedly it is hard to tell with a lot of them because of the deck pads. Three quick questions
Do you ride with your back strap offset?
Are you ridding a production board between 85-95 litres with the offset capability?
Are you aware of a production board between 85 -95 litres that does not have the offset capability?
Cheers

I have only seen one person sailing with offset footstraps in the last 5 years. He said it was something to do with having your toes closer to the opposite rail.

From what I can gather the general approach these days if you want to achieve that is to loosen up your footstrap and shove your foot in more.

Hi Oldboy,

I always ride with my back strap offset so that I can do a decent bottom turn. Mind you all my wave boards are reasonably high vol (92-97l) si this is necessary to bury the rail.

Cheers, Jens

Oldboy,
I upgraded my old custom waveboard a few years ago and I found the same issue. My boards always had the offset footstrap and I reckon it's great, better for waveriding and jumping.
I found that not all boards can offset, I decided not to even consider those that didn't. I ended up getting an Exocet Universal Wave 88l. It's been a good board.
I also experimented with this large back footstrap idea, for about 2 runs. I found my foot fell out on jumps and it's not as good on waves.
I'm not sure why they don't put it in all wave boards, I can't see how it could be better to put up with a loose back footstrap?

G'day Oldboy, I ride customs and anything under 75 has quite a narrow tail so it dosn't need it. over 75 and an offset takes the pressure off your ankles and makes for a sweeter bottom turn. Gives me good speed by having my feet closer to the rail on the way out.

I only have little feet, unless the strap is offset, I can't get enough downward rail pressure with my back foot, means I have to lift my front foot instead, this doesn't get quite the same drive out of the turn.

Well ,you know what they say about people with small feet. Personally, I have really huge feet.
