Seabreezers,
When windsurfing at Flat Top, Woolgoolga in the NSWWA comp I found that I was able to catch a wave, ride it, do 2 or 3 turns on it and not fall off. My set-up was a 5.3m (i was underpowered) on my Naish Wave 85, with the standard Naish wave fin and the mastfoot quite far forward. The wind was cross to cross off.
I then went out on Saturday at Queenscliffe/North Steyne as the wind was a gusty 0 to 25 knots, cross to cross off and the waves were ok. Thought it would be ideal practice for less than ideal competition days. My set-up was 5.7m (mainly underpowered except for the rogue gusts), Naish Wave 85 and a MFC wave fin (thicker/longer/wider than the Naish) and I had the mast foot in the middle of the track.
The thing I didn't understand was everytime I got planing on the wave and jumped into the footstraps, as soon as I beared away I spun out. If I didn't spin out going down the face I spun out on the top turn, stopped dead and the wave passed under me. In 2 hours I only managed to ride 3 waves and each of those comprised one bottom turn and one top turn.
So, with this limited description, why was I always spining out? Could it be the fin (is a little loose in the box but nothing major), the combination of fin and sail, or the fact that my mast foot was too far back? I've only experienced proper down the line a handful of times and can't seem to improve!!
Thanks!

In order of importance.
1. Fin too far forward.
2. Fin loose.
3. Mast track too far back.

Thanks! I never think about where I put the fin, wil try it further back and stick some tape on it to make it tight!

Comrade Crash
Is good idea to place mark next to fin box (on board) so you know where the fin goes (when you find the sweet spot)
This is similar to system used on mast track to identify where mast track should go.
My wave board has 3 marks next to fin box using waterproof marker pen where fin goes. As I got the board off MA it was already marked. As he rips and has the ability to beat anyone on the NSWWA on a given day i ssimply went with his markings... works a treat !

PS- don't get to hung up on Manly/North Steyne conditions, lived their for 8 years and only got 3 decent sails there... it's got a lot to do with tall buildings and many many wind shadows. The Queenscliffe bombie when breaking can be a lot of fun but moves around alot

Kremlin, I agree with Manly and the less than perfect conditions. I had 2 hours of daylight left, and after 2 comps this year I realised I'd be needing practice in float out windsurfing!!
Met up with stef the other day to look at the board, looks like Mark will be getting it this week. I could have done with it on the weekend, but have the rego to get first!
Cheers
