So the forecast is good, 25 knots saturday, 30-40 on Sunday. Is there anywhere in Sydney that I can get out wavesailing but not in the 6 foot waves that are forecast? Would Dolls point work?

Who's heading out and where?! I don't want to head out on my own!

I also have to say the Manly ferry this morning was a lot of fun! I guess it may be cancelled this evening...

Cheers!!!!!

Crash, Looking at the graphs this morning (gusting to 50knts), you might just find a 6ft swell at Dolls Point!!

Might make it out Saturday.

Regards,
Harrow.

i was down at gerroa on Saturday (almost got wind enough) then the dang on Sunday as i thought the wind was going to turn SW. I couldn't find the beach, just a path over the dunes at the end of a suburban road...

Gerroa looked good though, looking forward to being there when it's windy!

Sail at Windang where the lake entrance is. Right next to the island.
Find Windang Surfclub and you're there

Crash, I prefer to go a little further up. I don't mind the wind shadow you get in near the beach at Kyeemagh in the SW. Means things are a bit more pleasant for rigging and taking off. You get clear of it soon enough anyway, play in the wild stuff in the middle, then come back and have a more relaxed landing. Anyway, I'm probably only a 30% chance of getting out at the moment.

Anyone make it out today?

went out at Kyeemagh today... not exactly sure how windy it was but in the gusts the water was flying in large patches. it was barely sailable on a 4.0 . Sunny most of day which was nice.

Wind swung around to SSW around 2pm and went down to Dolls Point. Still overpowered with the 4.0 most of the time. Chop was very consistent and made for some nice jumps. I left around 5pm and waves started to form but nothing ridable. If there are waves I would say try tomorrow or Saturday morning.

Unless the wind dies off I don't think sailing the dang or anywhere else around Sydney would be much fun. Was thining about Makaha if the wind drops...

stehsegler,

What board did you use with the 4.0? How much do you weigh? What size sail do you reckon would have been ideal for today?

Regards,
Harrow.

How sweeeeet is the forecast!!!
Sailed today at Cronulla near the wall, got belted there , swell didnt look big until i got out.
Ended up riding at bay surf (hacking river mouth). It was all time there, down the line, 3-4ft waves and bloody gusty. I was seriously over powered on my 4.2.
Cant wait until tommorrow.

Someone went out at Long Reef today!

Mark from Narrabeen took a 4.0m2 and 79 wave board out in massive surf and had a wild time outrunning double (4m) mast high sets. He was pretty worried at times, as was only one out, but managed to get back with only a bit of a bruising and no broken gear.
3 weeks in Maui helped him handle the wind (and choppy water!).

Look for him this weekend and probably Friday arvo!

Go the silver bullet!

Harrow,

I was using an 83 liter wave board. something in the 70 liter range would have been better... oh and after a little too much indulgence while travelling on per diems I now weigh in at a proud 98 kgs.

as for ideal sail size I think a 3.5 with a 76 liter board would have been ideal...

Hopefully it will be the usual sucky wave over dry rock bed in shark-infested waters.
It will get crowded once the location is revealed.

As if anywhere in the Wollongong area is ever 'crowded':P I see about 4 windsurfers a year unless I go to Windang, where you might see 4 people sailing (comps withstanding). The last time I saw someone up north was last summer and i've been sailing all winter :( Lots of kiters though at Sandon, they are mega keen.

I'll probably head down to Windang tomorrow lunch as the surf seems to be dropping off a lot this arvo, hope the wind stays in. That rock wall must be nearing the water by now :|

Hey Rosey,

Any reason why you didn't tie it back up again? Was the bit you had left not long enough, or were the seas really rough?

The poms all talk about having a spare bit of string attached to your harness somewhere, might have come in handy then. I know I'd rather faff around for ten minutes than swim back
