Why is the temp predicted to reach 30 deg today in sydney, yet the wind prediction shows that the wind will die to almost nothing just after lunch?

I thought it should kick in with such a high temp?

Is it because the High is moving SE towards NZ, so the natural airflow will be NW, the pressure gradient isn't that large (so not much wind anyway) and the seabreeze action (East) is counteracting against the NW wind?

You'll get a better seabreeze when the city is predicted to be 25 with 30 out west. This is because the seabreeze keeps the city temps down. When it's 30 in the city, it's because we get hot N/NW winds associated with a following southerly front. It's all pressure related, sometimes we get strong prefrontal northerlies, sometimes not.

Having said all this, check out the noreaster that's just turned on at Kurnell.

... oh, and another thing. Something tells me that you'll get plenty of time on water this summer!

Yeah, I'm sitting at home with the car all packed, and engine running wondering if I'm gonna get stranded out in the middle if I go !!

Well if you're bored, maybe it's time to bite the bullet and do the drive! Kurnell's a pleasant drive once you're past Taren Point Homeworld.
