Hi All,

I'm a pleeb looking to buy a new wet suit. I've had a read of
previous threads and have a good idea of the products that are
out there. I want to know when is a good time to buy stuff ? IE
is gear cheaper in the winter or in the summer ?. The reason I am
asking is because I won't be going out until spring (I'm doing it
through a school at the moment -- hiring stuff), so I would only
buy stuff now if I know gear is a bit cheaper in the winter (I
live in Adelaide).

PS: This site looks really great ;)

Cheers

hi jason, i just got myself a wetsuit on friday, very good for its price, 280 buks, its a peak, make sure you get a 3 mil one or a 3 mil, with a 2 mil arms and legs because anything less you will freaze your tits off, not my words. there isnt ever a cheep time to buy good wetties because they are always gonna have a price tag, just have look around the best sail price you are gonna get is probaly 15 persent off, but if you are gonna get one remember to get these features in it:
glued and stiched seams,
3 millimeter thickness,
adjustable kneck diamiter, if you dont get that you will sufficate.
but for a good wetti be looking at around 300 buks, no matter what time of year, but if you go near the end of finasial year you may be able to get a previose year one for a cheaper price. maby 250 for a top of the line,
enjoy and you should start gettign your own gear asap because once you get youtr own stuff you dont need to worry about breaking other ppls stuff

Thanks all for your good advice :)

Re buying gear: I'm still progressing from beginner at the moment
(and using beginner kit). I figured, I will progress a bit more,
than buy intermittent kit, otherwise I might out grow gear.
Instructor is always too happy to hire his gear ;) ;) ;)

Thx again

Jordo, can't see anyone *needing* a 3x2 steamer in spring in SA...... a spring suit would suffice maybe and he can save some cashola. Any SA crew should weigh in to the debate about now....

mark, in spring all you nead is a roaster (a rashy with a rubber lining), and a pear of board shorts, and you need a roaster for winter, and thats the only time you would nead a wetty, thats what i recon anyway.

Jordo... it's known as a blastshield and you can get em here
www.windwarrior.com.au
I have had one for near on 2 years and it rocks as a spring weather warmer and also can be worn under your wettie in winter.
In south Aus I would be recommenindg a 3x2mm wettie and a blastahield to 'Heat It UP'should you still be getting cool

Have not tried the windwarrior silver bullet wetsuits... anuyone out there know what they are like ?

I can only second Black Dogs comment re the Windwarrior Blast Shield. I got one of them... it's a short sleeve (must get myself a long seelve one!).

There are very versatile and durable. I have used mine both in summer as a wind/ sun protection as well as in winter to extend the use of a 3x2mm wet suite. I also used it under a short sleeve suite last summer in WA during a couple of unusually "chilly" days where I had a cold.

They are quite cheap so it won't to much damage to your bank account... I also think they are Aussie made and you can order through their website at http://www.windwarrior.com.au/

On the other hand, since you are living in South Australia I would probably also go for a 3x4m winter suite. Both O'Neil and RipCurl make suits with water barrier. O'Neil makes one specifically for windsurfing. Can't remember the name but there is some info on the O'Neil site for it.

my one wich is made by peak is called a roaster, so i gues it all depends on the brand and what they call them, i have had mine for nearly a year, and it was the best thing i had brought for a while.
