Hi I am looking at getting back into sailboarding after a long break and a stint of kitboarding for the last 5yrs. I still have an old wave board but I want something I can use in 12-25Kn and I can get my kids to learn on also. I'm 80kg. Theres too much choice for an old one design fogey....

Hmm 12 to 25. I guess that calls for a sail range of about 8.0 to 5.0. It'd have to be just right to fit that range. I'd guess a freeride board about 65 wide and about 110 litres might fill the bill for you. What do the rest of you think?

There's really too many to pick from to name just one perfect board which suits 12-25kts. I'd say around 120ltr's and wideish as this will help the kids. 110ltr's is good for you but might be a hurdle for learning on. Stick to the good brands only. Read a few write up's in the mags. Good luck.

Something like the Starboard carve 122 could do it, you would be stuggling to get the Carve 111 going in 12. You will need 2-3 fins to get that range. My Fanatic Falcon 111 has that range but you need a big fin and good pumping technique for the 12 knots and good control and technique to manage a big board at 25 knts. However too fragile for learning.

Sharzbar, as a self confessed one design fogy, the important thing is to get your One Design going again!

Next season will have social racing at Dobroyd, Narrabeen and Parkdale; perhaps a weekend away or two to Hawk's Nest or somewhere else choice with the FW/Slalom guys, Geelong Race Week or Sorrento; and a national title at Batemans Bay over the January long weekend. The emphasis will be more "fun" than "ferocious".

We've got Barracouta to produce nice 3.5m and 4.5m sails for the kids (much better than the old pinheads) and a kid's class is emerging.

Chris thats always an option, have to pass on the invite sorry I'm in TAS, a few guys are racing formula boards over here but thats about it. I thought about trying to get a few of the old 80's crew out on one designs, maybe I'll stir em up a bit. Cheers
