Thought it might be amusing to hear what others are using as their wind indicator.

I have a tree in the next street that I monitor. By looking at that tree I can determine what size sail and board to throw in the car.

Another one, is when my letter box flap starts flapping I know it is 20k+.

Oh yeah, one other, when the water in the toilet bowl is moving (without any assistance from my bodily fluids) I know it is honking.

Peppi tree at the end of the driveway and a palm 1 street away. When the palm is animated, it's 4.7 weather

I don't need anything at all.....

Having a busted foot, if it is really going off I get 3 or 4 SMS's thelling me how good it is, and all my workmates file past the office and mumble "bet you wish you were out there today....."

I don't have a tree I carry all my gear When at the beach, I select a wind dummy, look at their gear, guess their weight... and watch and see what they do

If they get pounded, I rig small

If they sink, I rig big

I once said to someone.....if you have to think about it, its not windy enough, works for me!You know when its there....you cannot concentrate.
we have a guy on the gold coast has a special tree, uses seabreezes, phones the seaway tower, has a hand held gaget to measure the wind, licks his finger and holds it up,checks if the cows are standing up or sitting down,Red sky at night, has some lipmus paper and still does his own thing!

You know when its time, you know.............

special wee tree at the shearwater near the car park on top of the bank

If you pee on it while facing the wind and your feet get wet - go kitesurfing

If you pee on it while facing the wind and your face gets wet - go windsurfing

Mine, well had a bloody ripper, big tall gum tree down the road out the back, then some boofhead went and built his two story and all I can see is just the top 2 feet (60cm) of it now so when I get a glimpse of its leafy green in the following fashion, now U C it, now U don’t, now U C it, now U don’t, then its time to go

I can relate to Gestalt - I look over my monitor out the office window over the bay and look for the white caps.

i'm driving round at 3.30pm like a man possesd trying to finish my jobs off, the trees are blowing, sms's are arriving, i'm nearly there then beep beep beep beep beeeeeep, 'job comes through taking me inland ...... quick punch to the steering wheel, followed by several swearwords, followed by the lamest excuse in history to why i have to bail, then a phonecall from my wife reminding me we have to go and look at kitchen stuff after work......

Being rostered on to work in the Harbour Control Tower and watching the wind indicator going ballistic and feeling the tower swaying in the wind at the same time as identifying my mates out on the water with their rarely used small sails really gets me a bit toey. All the while I'm ringing around franticly trying to organise a shift swap with someone.
