Feeling frustrated after another piss-weak Nor-easter on the weedbank at Budgewoi this summer. Whilst it was a pleasant 14 - 18 kts for about an hour and a half today, yet again Huey clocked off and went home about 5.30pm, leaving 10 - 12 kts to sail home in!
Meanwhile, Sydney Harbour & Botany Bay got 20 - 25 kts NE, as did the Mid North Coast (Nelson Bay, Taree and Port Mac).
Newcastle and the Central Coast just don't seem to be getting the big Nor-easters this summer (despite this website's forecasts)!
Anyone have any ideas on what is causing this??
^^^^^
Yeah we got nothin
Had four weeks off over Xmas with the plan of sailing every day .
Three slow drifts on a RB and that's it . Still haven't had a good go .Planing is a distant memory.
I sailed right through Xmas. There was not enough wind for kites and the foiling guys were dredging.
should be some more windsurfer LT sales after I shared my gear with those not able to get their foils going.
Time to jump on board the new foiling craze
I'm about to , picking up foil today
Im going to be one of THOSE guys .
Please shoot me if I start thinking about kites.

CLIMATE CHANGE !!!!

CLIMATE CHANGE !!!!
I'm sick of these weeks of 38 degrees plus and no rain..not to mention the many 40 degree plus days.. Lovely watching everything shrivel...not.. I feel sorry for those out west with their dustbowls, dried up dams and storms..
The west has not been getting our usual seabreezes either. The breeze comes in but instead of building during the afternoon it fizzles. More west and gustier than usual.
At least we have been mostly getting very pleasant days with warm temperatures, unlike the rest of the country.
The usual summer weather pattern of a strong high establishing in the bight and sitting there for days is not happening.
The tropical low pressure belt is further south and cold fronts are further north and are pushing the high pressure systems east quickly
Not only CC, the NE are all over the place. Around Forster and further up towards SWR was apparently windy
NE's for 7 days straight after Xmas.
.
Also the southerly's have been hopeless.
.
My hands have lost any resemblance to Mike Waltz's classic callouses!

Cmon Imax1, post your new PB n tell us all what you used to do it. Cmon lets have it. Great effort mate.

Its just a matter of time till your progression and skill level is ready for a kite, progression from standard old school poledancing on to a foil is the first step, you are nearly ready grasshopper from being a kitten to a becoming tom cat. Some on here are too scared to have a crack on a foil, they say that its not real windsurfing lol, but they are just too old and scared to try new things.
Good on ya mate, foil on brother.

To me the idea of foiling is just another disilpline to windsurfing in lighter wind , like a RB which I also enjoy.
I doubt it will be as much fun as planing a small board , but who knows. I'll take the lot !
Kiters never smile , same as airport security , so it can't be much fun. So I probably won't do either .

HELL YEAH !!! Nice effort mate. Flick the foil. From what ive seen RBs plane before a foil can lift off. Also, try doin 26kts on a foil... Foilin schmoilin. Bah...
LONG LIVE RBs...
Add SE Qld to that list, a record breaking summer for all the wrong reasons :(
Yep yep yep. Not even 9.5m can make that look good. So check out the Windrider vid by Paul. Its a bloody Ripper!! PMSL everytime i watch it..

Down here it's very similar, seabreezes very weak & have more South in them than normal. Troughs are not sitting off the coast but coming inland straight away.
It appears the High in the bight has been replaced by the "quidge" which seems to persistently sit between QLD & NZ. This looks to have quite an effect on the Australian weather, they talk about it a bit in the Weatherzone forums in a few threads. The yearly Climate Driver threads mostly fly right over my head

Yeh - I was looking at the results for the 16ft Skiff nationals (my old class) at Darling Pt on Waterloo Bay over new year - they didn't get a race over 15 knots. When I sailed there in the '97 Nationals we didn't get a breeze under 15 kts and most days were 20 - 30!

In NSW, the inland 'heat' trough that regularly sits over the great dividing range in summer definitely plays a role in how far inland the NE seabreeze penetrates and how strong it gets. As the summers are getting hotter the bigger effect the inland trough must have.
I'll be down soon it will be windy then. Ask Matt if you don't believe
Better be.. Not TOO windy though..
They say the monsoon season has been a fizzer so far..no cloud over the inland equals heat sitting there waiting for a N influence so it can come further east.
Hope Lake George gets a big high in the bight...
Hope this is an anomaly and not the future.. I might have to move to Tassie ,except everyone will be moving there to escape the heat..

Kiters never smile , same as airport security , so it can't be much fun. So I probably won't do either .
I think they never smile because a lot of them don't have much control and are just hoping that the big kite thing doesn't fall from the sky. Well, you would think that anyway based on the way a lot of them are not concious of other people around them.
As a windsurfer I used to assume that kiters just hated windsurfers and went out of their way to get in the way, jump without looking, and do runs so short that it seems they are too afraid of the water and don't know how to swim.
This season I spent almost two weeks hanging around a beginner area and practising kiting. I was wrong. They don't really hate windsurfers, they just generally don't have any understanding of other water users including other kiters. They do the same short runs, jumping without looking, and have the general lack of observational skills, even when there are just other kiters around. Beats me why some kiters want to go a whole 50 metres and turn around repeatedly when there is a 500m stretch of nice clear water to play in.
One thing I will have to own up to though is that I didn't have enough wind to plane on a 8.5m sail, but with an 11m kite and a big board, I was happily going back and forward all day,.... only 50ms though, as I wanted to try and fit in
I admit is does seem that we have not been getting the wind of recent years at Lake Macquarie, although my sail log says otherwise. For the period of boxing day to 21 January I have sailed 15 times this year (not foiling), compared to previous 5 years 14, 13, 12, 9 and 12
Another case in point today - 14 kts NE max at Norah Head (and died by 5.30pm) whilst Sydney Harbour continued to build to 20kts and blew until sunset. Kurnell got 20 - 25 kts (although I'm beginning to suspect that station over-reads as it's always windier than anywhere else in Sydney).
Wind is looking good for the arrival of the Boombuster , hope his journey brings wind your way
Weird how it works, will blow up here when he leaves
3 weeks off over xmas and completely jagged it . Back to work and it turned to ****. The timing was perfect. I have a mate whose annual leave started the last day mine finished. Poor bugger. I took all the wind. We're not mates anymore
