Newcastle area..Ive only been back into it for the last 2 seasons and as such this one seems pretty good to me but people tell me its still lousy? I know there has been more rain but we are getting a bit of wind with the rain..
I remember NE 's followed by a S back in the 90's but its so long ago I can't remember details..

Hey SBC

My recollection is that the last 7-10 years have been quite rubbish compared to the 1990s

This season has been quite wet, but since about mid Nov the NE breezes have been quite regular, sometimes running for days, and also sometimes quite strong (last good one I had was 3 weeks or so ago, 93kg on my 5.2....I havent used my 5.2 since I spent 6 months in WA over the spring summer 06/07). More importantly these good days have occurred on weekends.

So, this season has not been as good as the glory seasons of the 90s, but way better than many of the seasons we have had for a long time. That's from a Port Mac point of view of course

Also lets factor in that in the 90s I was probably 10-15kg lighter, so that may skew my recollections

I am trying to work out whether I have just become more fussy about wind, or the wind has gotten worse. I learned to sail in the late 80s/early 90s. Certainly it seems like the NEsters were more regular back then without the 2 weeks gaps between them that we seem to be getting at the moment. I used to get sailing most weekends over the summer back then, and admittedly sometimes I struggled to get planing, but most of the time I was OK. I certainly long for the 2-3 days NE followed by S change and then a few days for NW to build up again cycle that seemed common back then.

I actually had a great season last season. I take my time off mainly before christmas, and last season really delivered before christmas with a few really big NEsters in the 1-2 weeks before Christmas. This year I was off 2 weeks before Christmas and did not get out sailing at all until after Christmas. I was in a severe case of depression for 2 weeks of time off work without any sailing. Luckily the week between Christmas and New Years was pretty good. I got a S on the Monday, and then NE for every day from Wed to Sat. Unfortuantely the Thurs was marginal, but still got some reasonable planing runs on the big gear. Back at work now, so not feeling as bad about the poor wind for the last 5 days and the forseeable future.

Basically unless we have a big mid Tasman Sea high, you can forget about strong NE seabreezes. Doesn't matter how cold the water is or how hot it is.

Might take the 125 + 6.6m sail & go for a flop around later so long as the rain doesn't kill it..got to try & keep the fitness up for when the wind blows..
