I have been sailing for a cple of seasons now. I consider myself a average sailer, jumping/waves/gybing etc. But with my problem I am not sure if it is my me,,setup,,or the moons not lining up like they used to.

I have recently bought myself a new skinny ezzy mast. I have only ever used the fatter masts before. It doesnt matter which sail I rig with with it but my rig now seems to be more 'front heavy'?? It feels like it is always pulling forward. It has even pulled my backfoot out of the strap and catapulted me once. I never had this problem with my fatter mast but I cant work out why it would be differant so I put it down to me, tired or whatever. But now im curious. Is there a differance between the two?? fat and skinny??

cheers..

It could be to do with mast curve -- Are you using Ezzy sails as well? If so then your sails are now behaving the way they should, unlike before when they might have been draggy and pulling sideways instead of forwards.

In any case, you'll get used to it in no time and then you won't look back. Skinnies rock!

Sounds like trim... How is the sail setting, more downhaul or less outhaul might help. What about harness line position, try moving them further back.

I had the same problem at the start of the season. It was bugging me so much that I contacted Mr Ezzy. He asked to see photos of my rigged sail and then pointed out that I was 2cm shy of minimum downhaul! He was right, more downhaul made the sail feel 100% stable again.

- 2006 Ezzy sail
- 2007 Ezzy skinny mast

The reason I was not putting enough downhaul was that the numbers printed on my extension are wrong. Do yourself a favour and pull out the tape measure. Make sure you're rigging to the numbers on the sail.
