Off to stay with my folks for Xmas in Albany. Anyone know if there are any sailing spots preferably waves, but anywhere where the prevailing wind is a crossshore I guess.

There's a nice bay the other (west) side of Denmark, forget the name now, but it's very long, so you can drive around till you get the wave size, wind direction you want, not sure how well it works this time of the year but.

Alot of the locals sail out from the yacht club, it's just flat water (few jumpable chops as you get out further) good fun, nice change of scenery.

The local crew are top blokes just ask around for tips.

have a great trip!

(just realised if your folks live there you're probably a local yourself so might already know that!)

Nah not local to Albany but go down every month or so. I've actually never seen anyone w/surf in Albany * was beginning to think no-one down there sailed.

Check out Parry's, Lights, Ocean and Anvil Beaches (I will be in February) in Denmark. It's only a 30Km drive.
Lights and Anvils have a few more obstacles to deal with but are good for waves. Ocean beach is only good if you can cross the river mouth as around near the surf club there is too much of a wind shadow (usually). Parrys you can drive around till it's cross/cross off.
Enjoy!

In a previous life I was "stuck" in Albany for a few days sight seeing with the Ex

We stayed at the Emu Beach Caravan Park (other side of the Bay)

I sailed from the beach in front on the Caravan park and left my gear rigged next to my tent

It's cross onshore with a nice rolling swell (fetch?)
I found out later that a seriously big bitey was caught just off Midleton Beach (1992)

You can also sail at Frenchmans Bay, good flat water stuff, however you need big B** as this is also a known haunt of big fish that like to hang around old Whaling stations

Very pictureaskew piece of Coastline
