Just a quick roundup on what's happening with the "real" Windsurfer (tm) this season. We're picking up as the interest in longboarding returns, and people remember just how much fun the Wally is. You don't have to worry about wind or gear, you can just feel the wind and water at any time.

This year we'll have active sailors all across the eastern half of the country. The Junior One Design is getting lots of kids in, and we'd like to get more fun sailing/cruising happening, but racing is the focus. There's active groups in;

Narrabeen - sailing most weekends, with Mac Uni also involved.
Dobroyd Aquatic Club - sailing Wednesday twilights and Saturday. There's about 30 Walliers in the club, and probably even more Raceboarders.
Cronulla - the Wally fleet reformed last year to sail Monday twilights, with the Raceboards.
Illawarra - Kids sail Wallies/Junior Ones with IYC, with the Raceboards.
Yarrawonga - they're getting five new boards to join the old ones.
Parkdale - about 20 Walliers.
Hobart - reformed last year, racing Fridays at SBSC

There's also active Walliers, and people trying to start fleets, in;

Darwin;
Queensland;
Canberra;
Sydney's Eastern Suburbs
Lake Mac

Just as important - or maybe more important - is the growth in the Junior Wally. Dobroyd has a dozen kids with their own gear and more who borrow stuff. Illawarra has a small but strong fleet, while Yarrawonga on the Murray has perhaps the biggest group of all. This summer we'll have kids sailing from Darwin to Hobart, inland to Yarrawonga and Canberra, and across to Esperance.

Wallies are still available new (production has increased) but if anyone has one to sell (or donate to a kid's programme) we want it!

AH HA, we used to play that off Dolls Point, I thought we were the only idiots to play that game. Always ended up with some aggro getting, well... angry.

Seriously, one more use of a Windsurfer-like design.

Chris, I hope you're not discounting freestyle, at least playful stuff. Hardcode, heavier freestyle tends to scare learners, but just learning basic flat moves, things like that.

Keep up the good work, when I return home (??) will definitely drop by for the freestyle part.

No way would I discount freestyle. In fact last week I've been working on some new moves myself, trying to do a jump sail 360 like I've seen on a shortboard vid. I'd like to encourage it even more.

I'm wondering if there's any interest in an international longboard freestyle video contest - people would send in a minute or two of their routine and we could all judge it. I proposed something similar for longboard wavesailing and Hot Sails Maui were interested.

Hey PC Simpson, do you want to get back into Wallies?
