Is it just my imagination, or are the JP boards about $300-$400 dearer than all the others. That's what it seemed when I was looking for my new board. Why is it so?

Any coincidence that the JP catalog features all NP sails, also seemingly dearer than most others?

Some answers...

JPs are nice boards - watch the noses! Not sure about price. Come from the same factory as most, new price is about the same as other majors.

NP own JP...

Top class boards in most brands are $2500 & 3000 for formulas.
Starboard sonic $2500
Fanatic falcon $2500
Exocet turbo boost II $2500
JP slalom $2500

how on earth can a manufacturer call a board something like turbo boost lol. you'd think the cheesy name would be enough to stop most of the sailing population from buying it regardless of it's performance i wonder if it goes pitttt ssshhhhh when u get on the plane

Say it with a french accent...
Exocet sell the vaste majority of their boards in France.
Somewhere in France a francophil equivalent of Haircut is saying, in french of course, "How could toyota call their 2 seater a MR2" (pronounced merde in french and meaning ** in english). Broaden your horizons haircut..I can think of many boards with worse names and I bet it never stopped anyone (apart from you maybe) buying a board they liked the look of.

JP boards and NP sails are more expensive, and simply it comes down to brand equity. They can command a premium because they have a strong brand. They are a large organisation and have spent a lot more $$ in establishing their brand. It's no different with cars, PC's etc.

do i detect an owner of a turbo boost come on, come out of the closet. Does it have an oversized tacho with a yello light that turns on when u reach 40 knots if it does, i'll take one, thank you very much

don't worry, it's all in jest ..... btw, this francophil is having an affair with a tabou

Someone that sails @ the train has a TB 58. I beleive they are a great board.
Anyway, that name isn't as bad as North changing the crossfire( formerly Transam) to Crossride, and a new hang-glider a while back called a "Desire"!..PUKE!

desire, yes thats a shocker

i've seen a board called a vitesse, and i always think of finesse

i can't remember anyone at the train with a turbo boost? unless it was someone like the shop owners from sunshine coast who came down? isn't there a francophil dealer up that way?

I thought Bombora could have put in a bit more effort with their board names: Big Toy, New Toy, Astro Toy. Tri-fin, now I bet they were up all night thinking of that one.

Then they had even less imagination: 295, 285, 282, etc.

Of course the 'Kangacock' fin surely took the cake. 'Kangatail' maybe - I sure never saw a Kangaroo hung that well!!

not much imagination there either, hey though you'd think numbers would probably be alot safer than names, especially if you were naming a product to promote overseas

i remember buying chinese computer products like Good Modem, ABC Modem, SuperFast Ram, and Winner Motherboards from computer swapmeets in victoria during the early to mid 90s

i'm secretly hoping tabou release a new range of speed boards called, Nitrous Oxide, Pop-Off Valve, Turbo Timer, Intercooler, Cold Air Intake, and Twin Cam (oops too late, Gaastra and F2 bet'em too it)

Next there will be an aftermarket higher performance twin system for the F2's.
The dude that sails the Turbo boost 58 at the train I beleive is a local, and I saw him rigging a north warp race sail,I think.
There we go, just found his name on gps speedsurfing- Zoran.

I'm waiting for the F2 missile air intake to get a letter-box scoop. Maybe the one from an old XY GTHO would fit?

My first thought, to, but is was an "Annual", so no prices, just piccies.

How about the floro though?! .. red/yellow/green/pink .. everything from wetsuits to boards to sails to sunnies to zinc.

People sure had a high tolerance of colour then. I wonder if flouro will come back, just like flares have?

One of my first boards was a Bic 'Vivace'....just looked it up and it means "lively" in Italian.!!!

(had a feeling it wouldn't mean "goes round corners")
