Yesterday on sailing into the beach I noticed a young Dugong in distress in the shore break,speaking to one of the Kiting instructors there he mentioned that he had rung up the EPA and was told that they do not have the resourses to do anything about it.With the help from 2 kiters we put the distressed dugong onto my sailboard minus the sail and took it out into deeper water and released it.Sadly on arriving back on shore we found that the youngster had beaten us back in and was flopping around on the beach so we repeated the transporting out into deeper water again and this time were successfull as the thing was never seen again ,hopefully meeting up with it's mother.2 weeks ago I found a turtle in distress and rang the Turtle hot line and was given the same answer we can't do anything,this coming from a Department that can capture and release crocodiles in a City,pay Fat Cats a fortune to keep seats warm and ignore wildlife completly.A Bunch of Clowns I say.

Tried EPA and Great Barrier Reef Authority and seaworld is about 1500 kms away.If this had happened during the week the relevant persons would have shown up with a local member for gov and a tv crew saying what a good job they do,unfortunately up here they are a joke.

missed opportunity! Dugons were the originall "mermaids". At least to a sex starved seaman, 2 years in to a voyage they looked pretty good, nudge, nudge.
