Hi CLub Members,

Next Meet.

The next Windwanderers meet is currently being planned for "Sunday" the 24th of June.

New Location.

We are also heading for a new location for everyone to enjoy. Something that we have been trying to do since the club started is visit Bongaree on the Southern tip of Bribie Island. so with an incoming tide and a forecast southerly, conditions look almost perfect for a visit.

Sponsors.

The Sponsor for the Bribie meet are Caloundra Wind&Surf and WindsurfingSales. Caloundra wind&surf are providing the bbq and giveaways while WindsurfingSales are also chipping in with more Gun Sails giveaways.

Demos.

we all know, pete can load more gear into his Kombi than legally possible. So we will be including a demo day too.

So to confirm the agenda.

1. BBQ
2. demo's
3. Giveaways

As usual we will keep an eye on the forecast and confirm as time draws near.
hope to see all there again for another top day out.

cheers all.

Gestalt.

That isn't that place that's really renowned for men in grey suits is it? You know, tax collectors? Noahs arks?

Almost time to consult the magic 8 ball...

there's sharks everywhere...

i don't think so. that's the northern end of straddie and the southern end of moreton. commonly called the rainbow channel. also the strip at VP is full of sharks too.... care to share

this is the southern end of bribie. i sailed there every weekeend for years and never saw any arks.... not to say they're not there though.

Hey Nebbs I know that catapult over the flow on the 12th of May might have fogged your memory but there were noahs everywhere. I nearly hit one on my first run of the day, mind you my waterstarts were super fast

I saw Junior racing a 2-man yacht yesterday... at least I think it was him! He was going a lot faster than I could slog, anyway

Hey, what demo gear is there likely to be? If there's a full rig I'd like to have a go. Just moved to Brisbane and don't have my kit shipped over yet.
Anyone renting anything in the area?

I need to get out there again.
How do I join this club ?

Cheers,
David.

Yes that was him n mate Troy on a 29er. I raced down from Brissy after he called me wind kicked in 15kts and turned SE. But by the time I got there, it was like 5kts lol. Reasonable surf at narrowneck tho.

hi David,

there will be KA sails and NXS boards there. i am sure we can get you out on something. make sure you come up and say hi and i'll organise something for you.

all members need to hold insurance. so you will either have to join windsurfing QLD or join the Wanderers. however if you currently have insurance with another state body then that will be fine.

basically just come along to the next meet and see if you like what the club is about. which is basically a good time both on and off the water. we are very laid back and relaxed.

also check out the website for further details.

if you are looking into gear rentals. most of the shops will be able to help you out. click padi's link in this thread as he hires gear and has a good range. also Caloundra wind and surf the meet sponsor hire gear.

the website is www.windwanderers.com

cheers
Justin B.

High speed Crashes……

As some of the members know my trusty home pc died an unexpected and very silent death a few weeks back. I managed to loose everything bar a month or 2. After rebuilding things and going through lots of archives I have almost pieced everything back together. Thankfully I do back up from time to time and kept hard copies. HOWEVER, if you are not receiving the newsletters then let me know. A few details may have slipped through the net.

p.s. forecast looking tastey again.....

pps. if it does go NE like some crazy BOM suggestion we'll go to Mooloolabah and hit the surf.

hi notwal.

bongaree will work from a Sou Wester through S to a Sou Easter.

if the wind goes east then we will hit the pond at golden beach. nice for some speed and or surf.

if the wind is NE then we go to mooloolabah. noce for some surf.

with the forecast being so eratic we will need to wait till saturday evening to confirm. i will send out and email to everyone and updae websites etc.

it seems at this stage the only thing that seems constant is the 20-25knot forecast...

nice....

Cripes!

I just consulted the Magic 8 Ball, and this is what it said:

Question: Will conditions be good for Bribie WindWanderers?
Answer: Definitely

Looking S-SE at this stage, what tides work best at Bongaree?

hi nebbian,

it's much the same as shearwater where opposite tide and wind are best. however i picked a tide that is incoming so it is safer for a club meet. but like shearwater once you get enough wind the tide wind opposite thing starts to cancel out.

it is very open on the southern tip. so having an incoming tide will keep thing more user friendly.

the other thing is that the tide is only really strong on the bongaree side. on the other side of the passage the tide effect dissapates.

if the wind stays southerly we will be sailing crosshore from bongaree down towards beachmere past pebblebeach and back. in the passage at the bongaree side are rolling swells and over at the pebblebeach area it flattens right off. great blasting.

hi guys,

my gut feel at this point is that tomorrow is not looking so good for the meet.

with this in mind i have had to make the hard decision to postpone the meet to next weekend. although we may get some wind tomorrow i feel it won't be enough to make the event truely successfull.

at this stage i am just not convinced tomorrow will hold true as the current forecast suggests and feel that the chances of rain may spoil things further.

i hope no inconvenience has occurred.

regards
Justin.

Still deciding where to go tomorrow. I'm thinking viccy point would pick up the most wind in the S/SE forecast. Viccy point doesn't pick up any swell though .

VP has nice shaped ramps for jumping at high tide. Best is there or outside the reef at wello.
