Okay so you all might of heard about kitesurfing is in the process of being banned. You also might not care, however.
During the meeting windsurfing was also mentioned.
So this is to advise all windsurfers that the VMR also intends to enforce the legistration of the currently banned practice (since the 80's I understand) of windsurfing within the Currumbin passage way.
Yes! it does include the point!
So below is what has been going on today in the kitesurf area.
It would be great if our local windsurfers could also come together as an association/club to voice any concerns they have or contribute information.

Green"LEADER" Hey? What a great idea.
I can understand after being a retailer of kite/windsurf equipment here on the Gold Coast for so many years that yourself (Ian) and Michael would do such an honourable thing.
Okay. This is what I don't get.
After getting nominated to be president of the Gold Coast Kiteboarders Club overe 12 months ago. Our club does not have an official bank account. Our club money is Where?????????? Who knows?
Last I heard the "LEADER" was given control of it. We have had not 1 club meeting since the so called president took over. Or maybe it's just only S*#f FX followers who are invited and they think they are at S*#f FX parties???????????
Now this is the good part.
Another member of the kite community gets off his ass and forms this group to save not only Kitesurfing but windsurfing, not only Currumbin but all kitesurf spots on the Gold Coast.
It is arranged for the president of the AKSA and other well repected community members to attend this important meeting with the VMR. Including our local president of our club.
Now after all this is arranged on a day that our local president takes off work, just so he can attend.
Well it is now 30 mins prior to this important meeting for our Kiteboarding/windsurfing community.
WHAT?
NO Green"LEADER"?
WHY?
Because he has decided that our local communities right to kite is not his concern. He has advised that he will only represent his company "S*#f FX" s an individual. We can forget any feelings of duties to represent our community.
That’s right! This meeting will go ahead without our local club president.
Again Why?
Because he just could not be bothered, IMO too busy counting the money we as locals have spent with him over the years.
Along with not wanting to show an united front of industy business people in case it affects his bottom line.
Gee! Thanks for giving so much back "LEADER".
What a disappointment.
As I write this the meeting now starts.
So now that I have removed that from my chest I wish to advise that our Kitesurf Community Association will draw up a petitions for kites and supporters of kiters to sign. Details of how you can add your name to this will be posted soon.
We will also post results of the meeting here later today for everyone to know what is going on and so anyone who has helpful knowledge/information can have an input to.

So here we are now with the president of the AKSA after the VMR Meeting.
Local kiters attending: John Warren, Gene Phoenix
President AKSA: Beaver
The results of the meeting with the VMR are:
Concerns about safety of kitesurfing in all areas which will result in banning of the sport by QLD Transport enforced by the Water Police.
VMR believes we need to create an identity as a sub division of AKSA
ie: Kitesurf Community Association (KCA)to represent the community in regards to any concerns by authorities.
VMR has started the process to change the current legislation in regards to kitesurfing within QLD. This means there is the chance it could affect every kitesurf location in the state.
We believe in order to attend to these concern we have to:
Arrange for AKSA to have 2 head representatives from the Kitesurf Community Association. It would be of benefit if these members had experience in dealing with local water authorities.
The current Association includes:
Gene Phoenix, John Warren, Matt Tobin, Paul Jackson, Daniel Bevan (Beaver)
This association is holding a meeting to discuss this and other issues further. Details are as follows:
Date: Wed 21 Dec 2005
Time: 7pm
Place: Nobby's Surf Club - Nobby Beach
Please call Gene - 0403 130 130 for further information.

Everyone is welcome. Please attend so we can listen to your opinion and work together to save our right to kite.

Also a big THANK YOU to everyone who was able to attend todays meeting.

Has there been a ban on windsurfing in the estuary and near the rock since the eighties, but the water police have been turning a blind-eye to it all this time? Thats very nice of them

As much as it would be great to keep using it (kites and poles) It is amazing that action wasn't taken against wind-water users earlier. There are so many wind-water users packed into that sardine can sized area on a windy day, that I don't think non-wind water users can feel safe in the same area, so personally I don't blame them? We've basically taken over the place.

Hopefully things will balance out as a result
