I see that the Kite surf guys have got organised and are planning a race to Rotto. What about the windsurfer? Is anything like this being planned for us? I'm sure there are plenty of guy's and girls out there that would jump at the chance. Perhaps next season, as I'm currently living in Saudi, but not for long.

I'm up for it.

I have spoken to a few who did it years ago, and it's not for the fainthearted as so long on one tack is extremely tiring. You also need to pick a day with consistent wind, and select the start point carefully to avoid having to tack upwind to hit Rotto.

Either way, I'm up for it. Now - how to do it ?

Need a bit more than a support boat. It is illegal to Windsurf or Kite to Rottnest, unless approval is granted. I believe it is up to $2,000 fine.

Ian Young (vice president of WAKSA and Rotto race organiser) has put in an incredible amount of effort to get this event happening.

I'm entering the kite event in a few weeks it would be good to do it on a windsurfer next year.

Thanks,

Ian.

when sailing to rotto I suggest that you use a weed fin because there seems to me more red tape in the area then imaginable.

As soon as you cross the shipping channel i believe it is open water.

Why dont we do a windsurfers vs kiters on the same day?

that sounds interesting
being arrested for windsurfing
maybe it might have something to do with no life jacket and flairs or radio or something my sister had a 900 jetski years ago and a mate and i were going to put surfboards on and ride across to rotto but was told by someone that we couldnt do it because we had no radio on board etc

what about :
I couldn't see where I was going with the sun on my eyes when suddenly I've hit Rottnest.
I am very sorry I'll go back home straight away.

anyone used that one already ?
so that I know I should try to come up with something else.
