Just a note to anyone who wants some simple fun racing in a decent-sized fleet (40 boards or so) that the Wally Nationals are being held on the January long weekend at Batemans Bay on the NSW South Coast.

There will be hire boards available, for $50-$100. There's slalom or freestyle the day before the long weekend and course racing etc on the long weekend.

It's a beautiful location, with good winds and clean water. See a pic of the area at /images/misc/forum-image-missing.gif

There'll be fun sailing for everyone, from kids (there's a special Junior class in the morning) to veterans.

There's new Wally fleets springing up in the eastern suburbs and Cronulla areas; for more information contact the class through

Chris, any chance you can draw some arrows on the link to show what direction the winds travel in as a general rule.
That should really p...s me off after showing me such a top spot for sailing, and its on the East Coast, and me over here on the West

I have bad news for you, mate. The nor'easter comes in hard (by NSW standards) from the top of the pic straight to the bottom. The swell gradually dies down among the islands (there's two big ones out of the pic to the right, the picturesque headlands, the reefs and the many little beaches further to the bottom right. So you get a low swell (unless it's big from the E/NE) and fun clean chop. Oh, and the river running into the bay is the cleanest one on the east coast.

But it's not all good. You have to dodge dolphins and if you go to the beaches on the far side, you'll be lonely apart from the roos.

Sorry to disturb you, but it makes up for you guys getting such nice wind
