THE body of a man has been found floating in the ocean off Sydney's southeast after a windsurfer raised the alarm.

The windsurfer spotted the body around 3pm (AEST) today about 400m from the shore at Botany Bay, police said.

Police and a Westpac rescue helicopter searched the area and retrieved the body a short time ago.

The dead man had yet to be identified.

Sounds pretty gruesome!

sounds like it would have been la perouse, normally I would have been sailing there in a sw but took my 10yr old for a sail on the otherside of the bay today thank god. nothing turns you a kid off sailing more than a 5-35kt westerly with a 6-7dg temperature topped off by hitting a corpse at full speed, luckily we only got the first few. On the bright side I guess that means that the big great white that was ther last year must have moved on.

Sure beats my excitement in seeing a giant sea turtle (Gnaraloo) a flying fish (Perth, Esperance and here) or a dolphin (everywhere)

Has anyone ever run over a swimmer??? If so what damage happened to the guy or chick, and what happened to your kit?

Your questions seem a bit strange sflack, are you responsible for the body?

Not something I would ever want to try out, or for that matter come close to testing

A few years ago (+10) they found a head (only) of a male floating down Cooks River - never quite made it to Kyeemagh - now meeting up with that would be scarey indeed!

sorry to disappoint Dan but this must have happened over at Kurnell. I was at La Perouse with two other guys from around 1:30 till 4pm. There where two coppers cruzing about at Kurnell. The Westpac chopper first circled over La Perouse but left for Kurnell after two short passes.

You didn't miss much as far as wind is concerned... it only really kicked in for about an hour or so but went from 25knts to 35knts in about 10 minutes only to completely die buy the time I had rigged a smaller sail. Waste of time really...

I hit a fish at about 20 knots one day ( probably a salmon about 50 cms long ) -- the board and rig stopped dead and I kept going up the mast grazing my shin from knee to ankle. I'd hate to hit anything more substantial than that.........

Hahaha, nah man i didnt kill the dude... BUT i have come MIGHTY close to running over some small kids... If you hit a kid (ran over his back) at WARP 10 SPEED... you would totally mess them up Not good, its soo hard to see them when the suns down over the water tho...

I remember a floater turning up at GLENELG NORTH S.A.

Infact i was windsurfing watching an ambo trolley being walked out on the break wall ,where the patawalunga lock is..........howling south wester it was ........

So i sailed over to the inside area and some one yelled out there was a missing person ........

Up till that point i thought a boat might be coming in with some one injured ..........

Waterstarting off from behind the the groyne freaked me out .......

Couldnt do much apart looking out whilst sailing in and out and busting big air.

With in 1 hour........20 other punter had hit the water and there were 3 choppers and news crews right over head .........100feet.

2 hours later on dusk ,this dood floated up just around the corner from the groyne........

All of us had been sailing right over the dood He gotta mention on that nights news........
