G'day all,

I'm heading to Phuket in November and hoping to get reacquainted with the sport. I plan on getting a couple of lessons and then hire some good rigs to help decide which board and rig to buy when I get home. I'm having trouble finding a sailboarding school where I can improve on modern gear. Most of the shops and schools focus on winging and kiting. Does anyone know where I might find what I need in south Phuket? Sunny Coast board sports have recommended a JP magic ride 149 with NP speedster 7.2 camless sail. I weigh 100kg and learnt the basics in Boracay a couple of years ago. Please share your thoughts on this rig, given my limited experience. I really wanted to hire something similar in Phuket to get an idea before I commit to purchasing. Your collective knowledge and experience would be most welcome.

Cheers

I don't know anything about Phuket just that the hotel I stayed at the wave took it ,but the best way to advance is to have your own gear ,I agree with the SCB suggestion s on gear .sizes .If you can find a 7.0 Ezzy Chetah they are more robust and won't get damaged as much when you fall .

Just make sure that you don't get a mouthful of water when you inevitably fall into it.
Unless you enjoy 24 hours of diarhoea.

Yeah thats a good combination of gear. The magic ride is a good board which is great for jibing, and the speedster is a nice sail which will compliment the board.

I also agree on board and rig size. Second hand would be a good idea because your going to trash it.

I keep trying to copy and paste the AI overview of November wind in Phuket without success.
Anyway, it says that the wind in November is the weakest it gets all year.
I'd forget about trying to windsurf there. If the trip is booked, maybe sea kayaking is a way to get on the water.

+1 forget about windsurfing in Phuket, wrong place, wrong month (transition to "winter" northerlies), and 25 years too late 😂
even with your own gear and good winds, rampant overdevelopment to the waters edge means just accessing a suitable launch spot is hyper challenging
renting a sea kayak or SUP is the way to go - forget about windsurfing lessons or adrenalin, just enjoy the scenery 😎
there are 2 excellent clubs in Jomtien, and remnants of windsurfing in Hua Hin, in case you come to TH again
