Sunday the 2nd of September (Father's Day) will see the opening of the Windsurfing Qld calendar of events with a club social day to be held at Waterloo Bay Manly. As some people may be aware the foreshore has been totally re-developed, and we feel this venue will be a great one for family's to bring the kids.

The day is purely social, and the club encourages all to come along and meet up with kindred spirits. If we have wind then we will be running some social racing for those interested. If the winds are light - Simon from Board Crazy has kindly offered the free use of some long boards / fun boards so we can have some light wind fun.

We will be providing information on the upcoming Slalom season and GPS calendar. Windsurfing Qld is keen to expand outside of the Brisbane Metro area, and we are looking to the future of developing a wave sailing arm, which may be able to run wave sailing competitions in Qld. Those sailors that are interested in such aspects of our sport are encouraged to come along and see what is on offer.

Our social starter last year was a huge success and we look forward to catching up with everyone.

Obviously, you will be able to join or renew your membership on the day.

The day will kick off at 12pm.

See you on the water -

Hey DAM,

Some wavesailing/freestyle events would be great - there are heaps of great spots to freestyle, so if the waves are crap freestyle could be run.

Possible locations: Ann St, Maroochy Bar, Beachmere and redcliff come to mind.

Peace.

I agree totally regarding the wave and freestyle, and the current committee is keen to try and get such events set up for the future. But we will really need bums on seats so to speak. So if there are guys and girls that are really interested in this area then we need to hear from them and furthermore we need them as club members.

Check out the meet on fathers day and bring the family (if applicable).

Regards

Darryl

We tried last year to get something happening around wave sailing in particular but in the end the resources we had just didn't stretch far enough.

What you can't forget is that the volunteers that run WQ are all busy working people with only one industry member (Simon the race coordinator). If we are going to make a go of the Wave and Freestyle aspects then people who are interested need to step up and take a role.

Justin Boland has done this with the social events through WindWanderers and that is working very well. He has basically become an offshoot of WQ and this allows his members to come under the umbrella of WQ while allowing him to do his own thing.

If anyone is interested in taking up this type of role then we would love to hear from you on Sunday or just drop a post on the WQ forum.

Hope to see you all Sunday - I hear Simon cooks a really good hot dog!!
