Hi all,

Was thinking of making a skateboard to attach a windsurf sail to. I saw someone in a carpark once and looked like too much fun to be missing out on. Does anyone know of a website where there are some pics or details of similar. I have been searching with no luck. Just looking for some basic details such as board length and where to position the mast base between wheels.

Any help appreciated.

Rob

did quite a bit of that before , so here are some advices that might be usefull

a longboard (even a crapy one) is better than a classic skateboard , some shops even sell board with huge wheels and those are cool as you could ride on grass, gravels..etc... You could also make yourself a board out of plywood and fiberglass, it's very easy.

for the position of the mast foot I found that the best was just behind the front wheel.
Drill a little hole in the board for the screw of the mast foot so that the square nut rest on the back edge of the front truck.
that's the best way , and your board only end up with a little hole in it.
That usually doesn't leave much space in front of the mast but that 's enough, you 'll be riding mosty behind the mast unless you are doing some kind of nose tricks in which case there should still be enough space to put one feet.

you then could have lots of fun doing freestyle stuff ( duck jibe, clew firt stuff, 360ies, backwind stuff etc...) or even doing slalom with other mates, if you are good skater you could do some kind of vulcan/air jibe..probaby even some spock (but I haven't seen that yet)

be aware that a parking is not as soft as the ocean, so falling could hurt.
use a crapy boom as it will get few scratch,
a 4.5 m2 is plenty for a light wind.

but it s such a wicked stuff to do when the wind is to weak to sail..
.or if you are working in the city!!!!

If you need any other advice just Email me...

ENJOY!!!

Leski,

Thanks for the tips. When you say longboard, is 1.4m enough? Too big?? Have you tried using conventional skateboard trucks on any boards. Will they be suffice?

Cheers,

Rob

1.4m !!! that's huge...then it's more like a speedsail then.
if you are thinking of making a board that big then It's a different concept.
better do it quite thick , and then the mast foot would need to be a bit more in the middle than what I was saying.
and wheels would need to be bigger than skate ones..

What I used to ride on was more a 80cm board , with longboard skate trucks and wheels ( they are a bit bigger and softer).
a board between 70cm to 1m should be enough (1.2 max).
I've got 2 longboards that I made with plywood and fiberglass,
I haven't use them for windskate but they will be pretty much the type of board for that.
If you want to have a look , you could always pop by , ( I live in Cott )

Ive used a standard long board with the mast right up the front.there are some huge netball courts on high st in freo which are realy smooth, good fun. also some of the roads around crazywaves are good and smooth with clean wind and not too many cars. skate sailing is also a realy good way to remove large amounts of skin from your body very quickly

as luck would have it i happen to have to have one of these land sailors it was built in france in 1983 and is still going strong . i use 3-6m sails on it . as someone mentioned yes they are quite long and the rear width of the axle is twice as wide as the front . the wheels are the size of a golf buggy this makes it easier to ride on grass & sand . you can do all the tricks on them just whatch out for low branches if you would like to see ph michael on 94473345

Hi,
I come from France and I also have a speedsail at home here in Sydney. I have been using it here a few times in Queens park and it is OK. If you want to see some pictures of the different existing boards, you can check on www.speedsail.fr.
For those who are in Sydney and would like to have a go when the park is empty (I haven't seen a ranger yet, but I am not sure he would really like that !), email me.
See you.
