Recent News -
The “Channel Ten National Slalom Titles” wound up on Monday with perfect slalom racing conditions, leaving the field with a lasting impression of Fremantle as a world-class windsurfing venue.

Day One of the event met the high caliber fleet with a searing day where the sea breeze held off until very late in the afternoon and then only came in with an unconvincing puff, leaving only 2 races of the first round complete. Sailors were made to work very hard in order to get through to the finals as the fickle wind meant many had not rigged large enough sails.
With the wind dropping out and an excellent forecast for the next days, racing was abandoned – the finals for Round One to be completed early on Day Two.

As the forecast had promised, Day Two provided conditions that truly tested the skills of the sailors with rough seas and winds up around 30 knots. This was where Jesper Orth began to shine through, dominating the day’s proceedings. His main rival was Scott McKercher who is Western Australia’s most famous and experienced international competitor and the current PWA World Wavesailing Champion. Scott’s incredible board handling skills were evident as he kept his speed through the turns, sailing past the competition time and time again giving Jesper Orth plenty to think about. Jesper won out with excellent board speed and consistent sailing.

The last day saw a steady 20-knot sea breeze drove the sailors at speeds of around 50 – 60 km/h as they raced around the course and although he did not win a single round of racing on the last day Jesper Orth, who had boldly predicted he would win, sailed consistently enough to take out the title. Scott McKercher finished second overall followed by Daniel Engdahl.
