go there and take a baby rig and an old school wave board, cause when it blows it blows. all you have to do is wait for the cold fronts to come and then go to NW tassie and it is awesome. so you studying at AMC? and if you get board can you get the bass strait record back for us, some looney did it in a laser in 13.5 hrs so what if his done a few olympics you can beat him.

Mr Curac would probably be able to give you a good answer for the original question. He lived there recently for several months.

Sounds like the northwest corner has endless winds and swells.

Of course, Marrawah is still a decent drive from Launceston (about 2.5-3 hrs, but I'd want to be getting out of the place at every given opportunity ).

The wind always blows and the swell always comes. There, I've just jinxed it.

For sailing around the Marrawah area,check out http://www.smackfest.net/ and pack your surfboard. Good pub and camp grounds too.

I can't believe that Justin Tapson is still going strong!! That guy's been at it for 20+ years!

Of course, closer to Launceston are a few beaches around the Georgetown area (about 30 mins out), which cop alot of wind swells.

At Hawley Beach near Devonport can often get some decent flatwater (lighter wind)sailing - if you're into that kind of thing. Nice area about an hour from Lonnie.

Then there's the east coast around the Scamander area (or whereever you decide to stop the car and rig up) - can be a bit temperamental for swell. Scamander is about 1.5 hrs from Lonnie.

In summary, the wind doesn't go away and, whilst it can get cold, you've still got a couple of months yet before the water temp really plummets.......(of course it's all relative )

Marrawah definately youre best bet for solid wind and waves.
