I'm a desperate inlander(Bendigo), who goes to Torquay all year round at every chance and gets to sail more often than not.

Is yhere wind Yes.
a 4/3 rip curl core is plenty, water temp is better than bay.

I'm about 90kg and pulled my first backloop on my 87L wave board and 4.8m in mast high waves there last june.

has to be southerlies, north and westlerly winds means a 20 min drive to pt henry(no waves).

best winds

From living on the southcoast of vic for 28 years, I can definately say that Victorian winds are much stronger, and occur more often than the Qld winds. If you managed to survive Tassie winter, then vic winter will be milder for sure, but is still very brisk in the mornings. Hottest part of the day is 3pm. Winter fog often does not lift till 11am. Lots of frosts. If they forecast 15 degrees, it reaches 15 at 2 to 3pm for half an hour, then it drops back to 7 degrees for the rest of the day till 11pm when it drops to 2 degrees.

I tell you! I'd rather have lighter winds and warm weather any day. 28 years of four-seasons-in-one-day is enough for me. You can't beat a hot Victorian summer though!!

Cheers

yeah they are all great spots hey!

The westernside of phillip island has about 4 different pointbreaks which would kick butt on a southwesterly. U just gotta get your gear down the cliff and get out past the rocks. I thought about lauching from ventnor and sailing out to where the swell breaks anywhere between redrocks and past flyns beach, but I recon you'd need company out there incase something went wrong. Looks awesome from the top of the cliff.

cheers

Fun Spots on the mornington peninsula:

Point Leo - suicides rig up on grass, crap climb down the cliff - works in SW but only on high tide. great fun by f'ing cold.

Flinders - big left on a south easterly, someone once told me you could also sail another section in a westerly

If you're stuck in the bay, there's some good spots in Brighton - Kinane St is good in a SW round to W, but watch out for the rocks. Park outside shane warnes house and see if he comes out to say Gday (if he still lives there)

Northerlies are fun in the southern part of the bay - get some big wind swells. Usually have to go early though.

4/3 wetsuit is OK, but your hands and feet will go numb - but that's all part of the fun!
