Has anyone else read the West Australian today and seen the new "Great Idea" for the Fremantle coast line. WHAT A JOKE.

I'm stunned that there are still people who think humans can tame the oceans of the world and do what they like with it. There are some many things wrong with this plan that I don't know where to start.

This project will wreck all the most popular ocean windsurfing spots in Perth and have a MASSIVE impact on all the surrounding coast for miles in every direction.

The project will use wind, wave and solar energy to generate all its electricity and sell any surplus into the grid. An area of seabed currently bare of seagrass from decades of port activity will provide new habitats for marine life. "

yeh right. About 0.1% Affordable for who? Maybe ex bankrupts like one Alan Bond.

Maybe the developers can incorporate some indoor type ramps over the sea walls to keep the wavesailors happy

Nice speed strip though (if they deleted the bridges out to the seawall)

WA is a pretty big state so I don't really understand why there is the need to build new land except for one reason, making money.

I was thinking along the same lines.. isn't the bulk of Australia un-inhabited???? Why make it bigger if you're not even using 30% of what's there already?

Mind you, the same goes for the Saudi's I guess.. at least some of Australia is actually dirt - not all sand!

Never mind the development - if it happens it may actually be good for other reasons.

what matters is WIND IN EXCESS OF 20 KNOTS. I want some, and not in work hours.

This is bvllsh!tfarkin.

It will surely create a massive wind shadow downwind: a good 5kn drop and more gusty winds all the way from Port Beach to Cott. No more slalom spot at Leighton and no more Dutchies.

I am getting really angry now, they didn't listen to us on Port Coogee, we really haven't had a win on Oakajee yet and now this. Time for a few windurfers on Today Tonight???

The only possible upside, if there is one, is that they are talking of supplying a surf break.

If it does happen, we would need to be ready with input into the design of the break (after the almost non event of cables artificial reef).

Instead of the fairly average conditions of dutchies, we might actually get something that works consistently. It would need to cater to ALL sports, not just surfing.

I doubt it would work simply as it is not exposed to much swell there, all the outer reefs stop most of it. Maybe a waist hi wave with two bottom turns. Would be overcrowded to blazes.... imagine 30 kites, 30 windsurfers and all pay $5 to park. If it is surrounded by a breakwater / groyne it will be an ok kite or surf launch but bit hard for us.
