...join Nedlands Yacht Club next season to race as a class Formula Windsurfing every sunday of the sailing(yachting) season if i organised it?????? This is about 16 sundays of racing alongside the other boats not after when the winds starts to fade.

With the formula nationals being in Perth next christmas it would provide an awesome platform for training. Could even provide a homeground advantage if i can book the water on the river.

Nedlands can provide storage at a cheap rate aswell.
The entry fee to the yacht club will also be waived if you were to join for next season. This would mean it would cost around $300 for the seasons membership. This prolly the best deal around considering it has the best river windsurfing location on the river bu far.

So do i have any takers???? i know a few ppl will join up next season almost regardless but what is the public opinion??
If someone buys my maui project then i will be racing every sunday!!

Sounds great to me! It would be great to have organised regular racing, followed by hot showers and drinks at the bar. $300 is a lot but I think I could do it if there is a decent fleet. I know the Commodore of NYC is pretty keen to get the ball rolling.

$300 is not alot actually when u compare the membership fees to other clubs like RFBYC and RPYC which are over $1000 per year for senior members.
Being a full member also give you the rights to sail from the club whenever you want.

Also discount rates also apply for students. so for u and i Chad, its closer to $150 for membership fees.

I'm in for sure. I know that Jesper O, Steve S and Dusan Mills will be keen also.
The ability to race regularly certainly beats having a season of 4 races in 7 knots at 5pm!!!
Hopefully at least a dozen or so will be in for it ( the more the better). lets get into it and give the East Coast lads some serious competion in January!

I'd be interested too. Does this type of racing require a standard board and rig? Just theoretically, mind, would a member of the yacht club occasionally be allowed to launch their ski boat from there as well?? Just wondering...

Yes Hendo a full fee paying member has the right to use the boat ramp whenever they feel like it.

The racing will be adhering to Formula windsurfing rules and will not run slalom if its over 20knots like in previous regattas at NYC. www.formulawindsurfing.org/ might be able to shed some light on the racing and the class rules for you. Its not one design racing like the mistral olympic class.

If you wanna watch some Formula racing come down to NYC on the march long weekend (sat or sun) when the next regatta is being run.

You wish Novak. Maybe try enrolling in a full time tafe course for 1 day tp show a student card then dump the course. Or maybe not.

Sounds like we might be able to poach a few grommets form South Perth Yacht Club aswell. It would be awesome to draw on a few kids who have dinghy sailing backgrounds to lower the average age of the fleet.

i guess by 'a few south perth grommets' you mean me and my brother and my mate.

Yeah we'd all be in for it. Be a good change from dinghy sailing, soon as i get back from europe in winter ill hunt around for a formula kit.

Are there any other people around our age (16-18ish) that are gonna be doing it?

Yeah mike i'm talkin bout u!
Dunno about wether we will have more grommets but grommets attract grommets. So you need a few to start the ball rolling. One of my mates Ben who is 16 did some formula racing a few yrs ago when he worked at 2nd wind and they lent him gear. Maybe i can convince the slack little bugger to buy a kit and come join us.

Maybe WWA might start a sponsorship thing for sailors under 18 who get into formula racing for the nationals coming up in december??? I rekon it might get the class really pumping! Maybe some coaching aswell could be good.

Hey Im mikes brother and I'd be up for it as well..does anyone have a rough idea how much a secondhand competitive formula kit would cost???

Also because I just turned 18, make the sponsorship 18 and under, not under 18

Anyway its a great idea, hope to see everyone out there soon...

I just got my kit recently and am having my first test sail firday arvo at NYC and fellow formula sailors are welcome to join me.

Stevo if u grab a bargin wou can prolly put together a fairly competitive kit for about $2000 to 2500.
From what i hear mike and steve ur folks are loaded, just get them to buy u a kit.
You can find lots of kit going cheap coz demand isnt so high, you just need to know where to find it.

From the sounds of it it will be unlikely that WWA will introduce a sponsorship deal on gear for grommets. however you can always try and get to know shop owners and see if they will lend you gear or ask for junior sponsorships. what do u have to loose.

The tally so far is now standing at at least 6 sailors who will join us next season! do we have anymore ppl out there who are considering joining us???

Cheers Bertie
