Hi, I used to sail one of the original old windsurfers twenty five years ago. The mast had a black plastic wedge like fitting that just jammed down into a slot shaped hole in the board. Extremely basic - not very good - it would inevitably pop out while uphauling and the mast would hit you in the 'goolies' - those were the days. The old boards are heavy and the rigging is primitive but I still love sailing them.
I recently bought an old Mistral Maui board which is maybe only 20 years old - it has a more sophisticated mast fitting that clicks into place and doesnt pop out - a great improvement! There is an additional feature my old Windsurfer didn't have that I was hoping someone could help explain.
The position of the mast is adjustable - you can slide it forward and backward on the board. What effect on performancedoes moving the mast forward or backward have? SG
When i bought my first windsurfing kit out of the paper it came with one if u live in western australia ur more than welcome to have it if u can use it its lke 3/4 a metre long and has like a bolt at the bottom never seen the application before.
