Hi gemax,

The most important thing to consider when buying a harness is comfort. There should be a chicken loop or something similar in the shop, so put the harness on tight over your rashy (if you wear one), and dangle off the loop for as long as you can. This lets you know if the harness has any tight spots that will chafe later on.

1: Probably a small
2: Depends on what you like doing, the general rule is seat for speed, waist for waves, but there are people who prefer the 'wrong' type.
3: Somewhere around 22 inches would be pretty close.
4: Comfort is much more important than money, you might find the cheapest is also the most comfortable! That said the dakine harnesses get good reviews.
5: Note that there are different sizes of spreader bars, so for instance I've got a small harness and a medium spreader bar. Also kiteboarding spreader bars have a 'hammer head' hook which makes it harder to unhook than a dedicated windsurfing harness.

Hope this helps.

I've been using Da Kine harnesses for a few years now & they are pretty good. I'd go for a med. and harness lines, well this varies, I like shorter ones (20inch) but they can be a bit harder to get into esp. in lighter winds.

Da Kine waist harness is great, comfortable, doesnt ride up, pockets in rear for keys, rope etc.

I saw a near new dakine harness last week that is falling apart. I like prolimits, comfy and look good.

Look for quick release in any harness you get, most have them now but think simplest system to get out when held under water.

Apart from that waist for most things, seat you may prefer if mostly blasting or speed. Really wide formula type boards alot of guys prefer waist. That said it's personal preference some of the top guys have worn seat for everything and ditto for waist.

Keep seat harnesses looking good by not sitting on boards whilst wearing them.

Harness lines get adjustables 20 or 22"- a little more expensive but well worth it.

thanks guys...
I tends to go out in light wind (still learning).
Should I get seat or waist, if waist harness does not harm in light wind, I prefer waist one. Just looking for simplier and fits in my bag.
also 20 or 22 inch? guess 22" is better for light wind.

28 inch harness lines hand span apart with a waist harness. 20-22 are old school!! Take a while getting used to, but i get planing quicker with them!

waist harness is heaps better in my opinion, seat harness' give you the big ball squeeze, not a pretty look when walking on the beach!

Just switched over from seat to waist myself. I'm finding the waist much more responsive with the shorter lines and overall like it better than the seat for what I'm doing at the moment.

And a very valid point raised by md74 on 'the big ball squeeze'.

i am a fan of the prolimit seat harnesses too....

don't give the big ball squeeze, last a lifetime.

seat harnesses come with a variety of hook heights. you should go for something with a medium height the prolimit freemove seat would be worth a look.

also i like dakine. nebbians waist harness looks the goods as well.

Just for the record it's an ex-demo "Liquid Force" kiteboarding harness that's one size too small for me. I bought this having never used a harness before, the salesman wanted to get rid of it and I didn't know any better.
The muscles on the side of my belly get sore if I go for more than 20 minutes in the one direction. I'm not sure I'd get a kiteboarding harness again, if you twist when catapulting it can be very difficult to get out from underneath the sail while you've still got breath, due to the flared hook.

I did a big 2 hour downwind run a few weeks ago and had no problems with my harness. So Yeah it needs to be a good fit and needs to be a windsurfing harness, there are some differences between w/surf and k/surf harnesses.
