Im looking for a new wave sailing board and want to know best volume for the board. I'm 75kg and 192cm tall and like sailing all over the place (lnacelin, perth, down south) in side on or side off conditions, say wind range of 18 to 25knots..

Would like to drop into some chunky ones when available and prefer surfing style than jumping and looping.

If your looking for the ultimate all rounder between 18 to 25 knots is the Starboard Acid 66. It has fairly thin rails in the tail with a pin tail, you can turn it pretty vert on any wave onshore or sideoff. You are a similar weight to me (78 kg). I am currently using a 72L board which I've been extremely impressed with. I can also throw up my 5.8 Ezzy on the lighter days to still get planing. I would say if your setting up for epic conditions (Lancelin,Marg etc) go as small as possible especially if you have a light weight large sail (5.5 - 5.8). I have found the smaller volume has given me much better control on the bottom and top turns. Buying a small volume board such as a 68 L would be great incentive for you to stay in shape. If you ate too many burgers and moved into 80 KG club you might start sinking to the bottom :-)

Try to change your fin first, a bad fin can make you cavitate on bottom turns or if your fin is set too far forward.A good guide to set your fin is to have the leading edge lined up in the centre of your footstrap.You can move it back from there if you need more grip. If you use a 5.3m and under try a 20 cm fin and a 22 or 23cm fin if you use a 5.7m I use flying objects polyester fins and they work well.

the fin I've got is a bout 20cm, wave fin fairly swept back but has a lot of area at the tip (a few seasons old now) I might look at a new one. cheaper than a board. the thing is it is hard to compare a delt custom board to others as the volume is unknown. only the thickness and the rail thickness. In the right conditions a 66L wave board going to be looser than your 75 - 80 L board, even though it might bog down a bit in the lulls. Once on the wave the thinner boards gotta be the go, in my opinion. When I had my board made I think I did ask to compromise and tend on the slightly thicker size to make the general sailing more enjoyable compared to the alltime wave sailing conditions.
