Hi guys for the last few years I've been using a JP 160L free ride (since being away from windsurfing for 10 years), but I've recently purchaced a F2 106 SX too much of a chicken **** to use it yet.we dont get heaps of wind inland near tamworth where I live, my most used sail is a 7.5 gastra .Do I use the same size sail for the 106L as I would for the 160L?or do I down size the sail also?
You can use a 7.5mtr sail with the F2 SX Medium quite easily as they can take up to 8.5 mtr according to the specs.I use a 7.5 mtr with a 38cm fin(get a good slalom fin!) on the Medium quite frequently and find that the board loves to be fully powered up and you don't get bent out of shape.
The beauty about this board is its width which will give you plenty of float(I am 95kg and it floats me easily) but it will take a bit of getting used to the shortness of the board jumping from a JP Freeride.
It will feel difficult coming from a 160 lt but if you stick with the F2 it will put a smile on your dial once you get the hang of it.
But be aware the F2 is made for slalom racing so it will not be as comfortable as a freeride board
