just to warn everyone that I stepped on a cobbler on Friday around 5pm at Pinnaroo point. The nurse at Charlie Gardner said she had treated 2 cobbler cases at Joondalup in the previous 2 weeks and had never heard of them before that so they must be out n about.
Best treatment is to put both feet into a bucket of the hottest water you can handle (assuming you get stuck on the foot of course). The pain is pretty intense and it took 7 hours and some good pain killers before I could relax.

The best bet is thick booties, which no-one uses coz they suck, or to slide your feet along the sand rather than lifting them up an down as you walk out.

Just be careful with the hot water treatment, a lot of people have ended up going back to the hospital with bad scalding and burns.

Another solution is a Wheat Heat pack heated up a bit longer than you'd use for your neck, it's easy to use, move and you can check the heat easily.

I was only 3 steps into the water when I stepped on the sharp "stick". next step was onto my brand new never been sailed before board. I managed to travel about 100m before I realised that the "stick" was a cobbler or flathead.

I always new it was gonna happen eventually, part of 20 yrs of windsurfing I guess. Anyway just wanted people to know, I only walked in 3 paces before it got me.

I still don't know if the new board is any good but I was glad I didn't stuff my first jibe on it.

i've been stung by flatheads a dozen times when handling them while fishing. I found them pretty much like a bull-ant bite and goes away after half an hour. An iceblock seems to kill the pain. The whole "rub the puctured area against the flathead's belly" has never worked for me?

If a cobbler sting lasts for 7 hours, man that must be painfull

Think another name is catfish, they've got whiskers, are a muddy brown colour, love to hide in seaweed, and have a horrible sting on their back.
It's a worry when near boiling water is less painful than the sting.
