G'Day all,
I'm heading towards Gerroa over the school holidays. Can the locals let me know the conditions that Gerroa works on.
Are there any other sailing spots of note further south towards Batemans bay???
regards
max

Gerroa is perfect in a NE as it's cross-off and often 10 knots windier than other beaches. Southerlies - go to Windang up the coast, you can sail Shoahaven Heads in a NE (cross on but often more waves)and Jervis Bay is a good spot for flat water.

Gerroa is THE spot in a NE'r on the southcoast. The local topography means it's a wind farm of sorts and is usually 5-10kts stronger anywhere other than Shoalhaven heads. If you're after swell there is has to be running SE-S or it won't get in to the top of the beach. Shoalhaven heads is an option in these conditions but it's cross on, very messy and there's a huge rip. If it's working Gerroa is incredible, have already had a few top sessions there this season....If only I had this Wed of work :o, should be okay up here in the Gong though.

I'm heading to Gerroa this weekend with a group of friends and won't be able to head away to Windang - will Gerroa/7 Mile work in a SW wind?

Cheers

SW will be cross shore. If its strong enough you should have fun

I'm guessing SW will run up the length of the 7 Mile so it'll be side shore/down the line. NE is side shore from the other direction but comes over the headland/beach so the water isn't choppy - except for waves, which I'm yet to experience in Gerroa!

Thanks for the heads up Qwerty.

best day ive had at gerroa was last comp there in feb?. the friday afternoon was 20-25 knots and head high+ waves. sometimes it feels like its almost dead off shore the way you are pointing heading out.

I have sailed Gerroa once on a sthly direction wind, actually found it more cross shore up near the camp ground at the tip.

Definatly best on a Nthly with a Sth swell.
