Dropped the board and did a bit of damage. Do you repair these the same as surfboards but with epoxy resin ?

Pretty well is the answer to your question. If you try to use a polyester resin, the core material will disappear before your eyes and worst still even were you cant see it.

It is pretty easy to work with but preparation is the key for a decent result that will structurally hold, look reasonable and even more importantly reduce impact on you health. PPE for surface prep and application should be used. Some people have higher thresholds for exposure to the epoxy vapour but the unfortunate few who have a lower threshold can really suffer from exposure so follow all of the precautions recommended.

If it is a small area and you want to make sure of the bond, rather than vac bagging it I have had good results by covering the area repaired, once complete with your glass layers, with a decent piece of baking paper and winding with 2” repair tape. Makes for a bit sanding when you have finished and it dries, but you can lessen "tape grooves" that will appear from the wrapping by covering with some padding like foam rubber (over the baking paper - so it cant come in contact with any squeezed out resin)

try using peel ply. thing nylon fabric that you use over the glass and can tape in place, but once the resin is hard you rip it off and it leaves a lightly textured, but generally easy to fair surface.
you can bog straight over it without sanding first to.
