Hello,
I've just started this great sport and after purchasing some pre-loved windsurfing gear (about 14? years ago), and not realising at the time that old 70lt boards wouldn't be the best boards for a 100kg begginner to learn on, gave it up after a couple of go's. This year I bought a new 165lt board and rig and realised that I should've had my brain in gear a decade ago, when I was younger and fitter to enjoy what I'm 'enduring' now as a 33y/o begginner.

Anyway, going through the old boards and sails (sails not much good), I found a race-style board with minimal info on it (custom made I think) and I was wondering if the knowledge base of seabreeze could help me.

The 3 boards I purchased were 2/ bombora (pink) plastic wave boards and an 'epoxy kevlar' board in excellent condition. I know that the guy I bought them off raced (going by the numbers and sponsor stickers on the sails) but would anyone know of a board designer by the name of "Bill Riddell"? the board would be 9' x 2' with n/p footstraps and would have to be 15-25 years old.

Just curious, but the board (even in this age of technology) looks fast, you could cut your hand on the rail edge. I'm not good enough to give it a go, but hope to get it on the water by the end of the year.

Anyway, any help would do, and I hope to post more (less words, I hope) in a forum that I'm sure will help me enjoy the sport even more than I am now.....

Sailhack..

I raced against Bill Riddell back in 1985....oooooOOOOhhh god I'm getting old

He sailed from the Brisbane/Gold Coast area....are there any Radio 10/ESP Pro Am stickers on the board? I have a very vague memory of a yellow/black board but that may just be triggered by your mention of the board being Kevlar.

Chris,
Thanks for the info!!! The board is pure white with no graphics on it at all, except for the small 'epoxy kevlar' warning sticker and the 'design by Bill Riddell' in a small basic font. The reason I'm so curious about it, it has some small wear on the footstraps, but the board itself looks as if it hasn't seen water, the underside has a very slight flat 'V' shape and is very glossy.

I'll hit the water with it when I'm more confident with waterstarts.

Thanks again,

Sailhack.

Old Bad Billy Riddell hey!!!
He used to make Wind Action boards and had a shop on the Goldy.
Lots of those boards around in those days and they were nice sticks.
Im sure Greenleader will have something to say on that period and the boards.
It probably should be fast so good luck.

Hang on, is Greenleader's real name halfway close to his real name? If it is, I seem to recall racing him in those days.

Ha, I think he was 3rd in the "am" division at that Radio 10/ESP Pro Am back in the '80s.....one spot behind me.

The bummer is, he'd kick my ass big time in the waves these days!

we sailed with greenie and partner in crime - michael, at shearwater today. They are making a comeback since they gave windsurfing away for kiting in about 2000. Michael even finally resurrected his forwards

was another great day with everyone out enjoying themselves

well sailhacker, you have a rare piece of nostalgia there and that white windaction slalom should go like stink.
made in about 87/88 it was white pigmented epoxy with a clear coat, most of them fell apart because they were team boards and thrashed!
today they wouldn't cut the cheese because the track is too far forward for modern sails and the fin box is U.S.
but take it out when you get good and make sure the fin is right forward in the box and the masttrack is right back.
p.s. it is more than likely that there is no kevlar in that sucker!nothing to do with me!

chris249, of course i remember racing against you so many decades ago! whats hangin, it's good to put a name to a post!
i bet you haven't changed a bit?!?!
