hey guys i will be in geraldton for about 2 week at the start of january as i qualified for the national titles for sailing (boats) and they are held there this time, neway i was just wondering what gear to bring, im about 80kg 185 tall, have no experience in the waves so am probably looking for flatish water.
i can get my hands on quickly
85lt wave board, 100lt slalom board, kiting gear, sails from 7.8 down to 4.3
amount of gear is no probs coz we are putting the boat in a container

can get my hands on more suitable gear if required
cheers

Just Kidding Kris,

Its probably the best time of the year to go.

The waves at coronation beach are very friendly for beginners. They start off small and the further out you go the bigger they get. So i'ts an ideal place to learn to wavesail if you want.

Sounds like you got all the gear you need.

If you are 80kg, a 85L board may be a handful on the better days.... maybe need a 70L and 4.0 in the late arvo.

Whatever you take, take lots of it

sounds good

i will probably be able to get my hands on something small if need be

dw im planing on brining as much gear as the container (and the other boat coming, 11th in the world) allows me :D

i lik the sound of this already, nonstop sailing for 2 weeks with no parents

yes Coro is the place, dead flat water for about 700m then the waves start, as already said, small at first, (ankle to knee) slowly getting bigger as you go out.
The trap for first timers there, on a moderate swell day, when the sets are a long way apart, is to go out too far, in the false impression you've got past the break. You can find a masthigh plus monster about to break on top of you, if that happens it's a very long swim to your board!!!!

January can be crowded, but it's a big place, wind can start at 20kn mid morning and get to 30 mid afternoon. Can be like that 4 days a week, then a few days "troughed out"

thanks for all the advice guys, hope to maybe see some of you there

20knts mid morning, i like the sound of that but ill probably find muscles i didnt know i had after the week long competition (no harness on that boat) so i will try to get the windsurfing done before the comp otherwise i wont be able to move let alone go for another sail

It is worth it, bring all you can fit.

The only problem you'll have is that if Gero is firing, you'll want to sell your boat to buy WS gear and move to Gero permanently.

Kris,
I've lived in Gero for about 18 months (2 summers) and in that time I've never used the slalom gear I brought up from Perth. I think you should bring about an 85lt waveboard and about a 75-78lt board, plus 3 wave sails 4.2, 4.7 and 5.3. There's 2 good shops in town too, in case you break gear.
As everyone else said, Coronation Beach is excellent for beginners through to advanced sailors.
As for Mark's comments on Gero, you get those types everywhere, Gero is no worse, and the windsurfing here is very hard to beat.
