Hi everyone,
as you may (or not) know, kitesurfers have been a bit in the red in Botany bay, and for this reason, we've all decided together to stick to certain guidelines to keep the bay safe.
One of them being the distance with the airport, and you may have noticed this summer that there were no kitesurfers launching downwind from the first shark net any more. We've all decided that we were better off kiting further down the bay, due to the proximity with the airport + the fact that the area around the restaurant/shark net is where the public mostly goes. Every local kitesurfer's been passing the word on and it's been going well.
Yesterday afternoon, we were 10 kitesurfers down at Brighton Le Sands and we've all noticed 2 kites upwind from the shark net, right downwind from the airport (where you guys windsurf)...
One of us eventually drove up there and informed the kitesurfers (they were travellers and didn't know) that this area of the bay wasn't recommended for kitesurfing.
This isn't about having a beach police, it's about keeping kitesurfing in Botany bay safe (it takes one southerly and one kite flying across the airport for us to get in real trouble!), and one of us suggested yesterday that may be we should put a post in the windsurfing section.
It would be awesome if we could get your support, and if you guys see kitesurfers rigging in this area, let them know it isn't advisable and that all the locals would be happier if they were launching further away from the airport.
Like I said, it's not about playing rangers (locals don't go there, so people rigging there are usually travelers, they just need to be informed...), keep it friendly, but mention to them that kitesurfers aren't supposed to launch this close to the airport for safety reasons...
It's a way to keep everyone happy (you don't really like having us on your way any way!

)
Thanks in advance on behalf of all the people who kite in Botany bay!
