i'm looking for a speed strip within 2-3hrs from perth. I'm running out of room in the pond when things are just starting to get exciting. Been to woodies and Pt Walter and they have too many vices. If anybody knows of some nice flat water when the wind is 18+ and is willing to share let me know. I don't take up too much space. I'm holding back my GPS!

suggestions appreciated
cheers

Theres lots of them around, just look on the GPS site and you'll see where the best ones are.

All depends on where you want to travel from and how far you want to travel to find out it's a cr ap session.

Ours down here are generally weedy with chop about same as the pond but larger further out.

Part of the reason why I generally stay local, the time I spend traveling could be spent sailing

There's no Sandy Point in SWest WA if that's what you're looking for.

There's nothing in mandurah that is as flat for as long as the pond in safety bay.

Elmo and I have one or 2 spots, most are known, "Binny's Beach" is a well known spot but is weed and tide affected, and all 3 the speed runs become shallow non-traversable sand bars (Some of Elmo's and my famous catapults have occurred here), One speed run is so weed overgrown that it is now unsailable on most tides, and the others are just as you are starting to hit top speeds, you have to pull out. The problem with Binny's beach is it gets very crowded. save your petrol. The reason I don't come to safety bay anymore is because of the crowds, why waste time and petrol to be crowded, rather sail in a slightly inferior, sometimes equal place, but with just Elmo, myslef, and occassionally binny.

G'day Stuart,

As Hardy said we are runs are greatly affected by weed and tides, at the moment we have some very low tides which require approximately a 250m walk through weed (+cobblers, crabs and occasional stingray) to get to sailable water, with a higher tide this gets better and your able to sail out closer to shore.

We have a couple of pretty good runs one of which is a recent Hardy discovery which we are still sussing out, this run has a pretty good nautical mile potential but it is a bit shallow and I've yet to try it with a slalom fin. After my last run down it with a 30cm weed fin my return run had me sailing through a number of weed banks (to water surface) I also managed to hit a couple of rocks as well.

I have done a bit of work recently (on high tides) with slalom fins but recently got catapulted by something floating below surface of water (I think it was a net of sorts), I hit same thing a few days later with a weedy and almost got thrown (twice), still don't know exactly what it was.

The tourists are a bit thick on the waters at the moment with crab nets, thin ropes and small floats but they should ease up as the holidays wind up.

Wind is generally lighter on the estuary than SB with best wind direction being SSW.

All said it's a pretty good spot to live and sail in. We regularly crack 30's, have managed higher, The Perth boys have hit 40("s?) when they venture down to the boonies.

Due to picking up one of our local viruses during winter I'm limited to sailing on the estuary, so if you come down look us up.

By the previous comments it goes to show how difficult it is world wide to find the "perfect" place most places have at least one down fall could be weed, tides, boats, direction, i keep seeing good times on the Swan river but dont know the area to well check out GPSSPEEDSAILING.

We have wind, we have almost the right direction (a bit more south please) and we have the tide coming in.

May have to give Hardies run a better test drive

Another hour or so should do it and then I'll be out there with all me mates (Solo session)
