As long as the two masts are roughly the same diameter inside the bottom end, it won't matter.

Only thing to watch out for really is if the extension is too long, it may not fit far enough up inside the mast (because the mast tapers). Not usually a problem with a 430, but it does depend on the design of the extension.

The diameter of the mast determines the type of extension you need, not the length. There are two diameters of masts:

-Standard (or SDM) and
-Skinny (or RDM)

If you don't know which your mast is, ask another windsurfer at the beach or head to a windsurfing shop.

The 400 in that extension probably refers to a length of 400 mm (or 40 cm).

The 430 on your mast probably refers to a length of 430 cm.

A 400 extension will probably fit in your mast, so long as it's a standard diameter the same as your mast.

One thing to check is that the extension has the right type of connector on the bottom. If it's the "Chinook cup" style then it will mate with that unijoint I posted a picture of yesterday. If it's the "North Pin" style then you need a different type of unijoint.

At work now or I'd post a picture...
